Villa Vilina Oasis in Neve Tzedek
Ranked #12 of 40 Tel Aviv B&B and Inns

An enjoyable 5 night stay at Villa Vilina. Set in a great location in the heart of hip and happening Neve Tzedek, this studio apartment was perfect for our needs and we used it as a base from which to explore the city and other parts of Israel.

The owner Vilina arranged for a taxi to collect us from the airport and show us in to the studio apartment so we had no trouble finding it. NB - it's not really sign posted, so I'd recommend pre-arranging a taxi with Vilina in advance. The room is pretty basic, but comfortable. We enjoyed sitting on the roof top in the evening and watching the sun go down.

Reading some of the other reviews on this site it seems that some people were expecting a 5* hotel, views of the sea and a place to lounge around all day. This is obviously not that. It's a studio apartment in the heart of a busy part of Tel Aviv: it's not the Hilton! The bathroom and kitchen area are tiny, you're only provided with some simple crockery and the bathroom shelves are half hanging off the wall The terrace is a bit shabby, but perfectly pleasant. However, the bed's really comfortable, the shower's hot, the room is cool, it's got a telly with cable channels, wi-fi and overall the place has real character. What more could you want?!

We recently stayed in this hotel located in a dilapidated building, in the heart of trendy Neve Tsedek area of Tel Aviv. We were so unhappy that we left the hotel after only 3 days although we had prepaid for 5 nights.

We had difficulty finding the hotel at night as there is absolutely no sign in the street, nor a reception area. The access was through a poorly lit, partly broken staircase.

We had booked a "room with private terrace and sea view", but the terrace turned out to be a roof-top section accessible to anyone. The "sea view" was a far-away sight behind a high-rise under constructions and junky roof tops. Access to our room was through the roof. The only sky light was throuh the entrance door, no windows in the bed room.

The room was dirty when we arrived. It was very poorly furnished; shelves in the bathroom were askew, and anything one attempted to put on them rolled on the floor. Electrical plugs were loose, half of the light bulbs were deffective.

The pictures Villa Vilina's Internet site are misleading. In my view this hotel is much much overpriced, and I would not recommend it.

Shabazi Street in Neve Tsedek is a lovely place to while away a few hours. There is a lovely bookshop half way along the street with a smallish but excellent selection of English books upstairs - recommended! There is a very nice ice cream parlour, lovely cafes and restaurants and some chic shops.
This is actually what you are paying for at Villa Vilina - location. We stayed in the studio flat at the top. As others have remarked, the website glosses up the rooms, ours was shabbier than expected. Considering the price, it comes as a slight surprise that the instructions left in the room state that you are in a self catering flat and that cleaning costs extra. Toilet paper and washing up liquid could also be included at this price. Be a bit wary of the owner, she lives on site and held an all night party while we were there (no apology offered). If you're not into that, you may want to stay elsewhere.
All in all, I wouldn't stay here again. There are more reasonable options about, and Tel Aviv is a fairly compact city. The delights of Shabazi St can be enjoyed even if you are not staying here.

We took he luxury suite and paid accordingly. The room was spacious and tastefully designed. But luxury suites should not have bare wires waiting to have the light fitting installed !! (albeit a side lamp- everything counts) Also the jacuzzi/shower requires some acrobatics to get into- but what a huge jacuzzi !!! In addition the electricity tripped if you insisted on leaving the boiler on for too long.
But don't be misled- overall this was a delightful experience in an authentic and buzzing corner of Tel Aviv- Jaffa and with a bit of polishing up and smoothing of the edges - I would go back !!
With a little more effort and attention to detail this could be a real gem !1

We booked the studio apartment based on photographs of Villa Vilina apartments. Based on these photos, we expected a modern space in a small, sleek apartment in a small, modern building. These apartments are funky cool, not modern cool.

Our taxi dropped us off in front of a small gift shop on the ground floor of an older building in an old neighborhood in Tel Aviv - one of the oldest, in fact. Vilina seems not to respond to phone calls, but she is quick to pick up text messages, and soon joined us, leading us through a gate and upstairs to the roof top. The deck is outfitted with comfortable, but worn furniture. I believe there must have been a terrific view of the ocean, but unfortunately there is a very large high rise under construction that now blocks most of it.

The studio is quite cozy, with the original floor tiles in place. The kitchen is well equipped, the bathroom has been somewhat updated, but still lacks basics like hooks and towel bars. If you insist on sparkling tile and clean grout, this is not the place for you. The only windows to the outside are in the entry door and the bathroom, through which the lights from the building under construction shine all night.

The bed is quite comfortable, and we really enjoyed sitting on the rooftop patio watching the sunset. The neighborhood is a happening place, and is very close to Rothschild Blvd. We were not troubled by noise at night, but while we were there, Vilina was remodeling the apartment next door (it looked really nice!), and, as she said, it was a "balagan".

Staying at Villa Vilina was an enjoyable experience, which felt more like being at home than being in a hotel. Would definitely recommend it, to someone who is looking for this type of visit.

Room Tip: It looks like Vilina does have some apartments with windows, but the studio really isn't one of...

I really enjoyed my short stay. The room feels airy and is, to my taste, artistically distressed in keeping with the boho feel of the area. Staff helpful but unintrusive. Rooftop garden calm and peaceful above the bustling neighbourhood.
