“Huge improvement”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

My friends wanted to have lunch here, otherwise I would not have gone. My last experience (some years ago I must admit) was not good.
I'm glad I agreed.
Lunch was excellent. The service was correct but friendly, the food choices were varied but not overdone, and the dishes we ordered were tasty and plentiful.
No outrageously loud music (a curse at some Tel Aviv eateries that try to be trendy).
Not cheap (although the Business lunch choices are definitely bearable). I glanced at the dinner menu (which was also available) and saw that a meal could be very pricey.
On a hot summer's day we chose to sit inside where the airconditioning kept us comfortable. Outside seating is probably good too on a cool day or in the evenings..
All in all an excellent choice.

“A gem in tel aviv”
Reviewed August 10, 2013 via mobile

You can feel the touch of the chef in every dish.
Sea food is not so easy to handle and to have such a results. Top class. A bit expensive. But you good VFM.

“Not that good.”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

We read that this restaurant was supposed to be the best in tel aviv. So we were really looking forward to a nice dinner there.
The athmosphere was actually quite ok. The food was also ok. The dishes were well prepared and they seemed to be delicious. Unfortunately it didn't meet my taste at all. It's not a place I would go again. In the end we didn't feel that comfortable as in other restaurants in the city. And u defenetely don't get what u pay for...

“Mixed feelings”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

After reading several reviews we visited Shila and came back with mixed feelings. The food was ok, some dishes were great (like the tuna tataki salad) others were boring and underseasoned.
The service was nice and helpful, the valet parking is a great asset.
We then had the chance to meet the Chef and make a tour in the kitchen.
Overall, it was nice, but overpriced and overpretentious. Not sure that we would come back.

“All hype?”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

Shila takes itself seriously, and wants you to do likewise. Service and style were LA cool, not affable Israeli - I can't recall any other good restaurant here where the staff overall has seemed as aloof - service was timely, but we felt a bit like we were a bother.

The food was only OK, and for the relatively high prices, not a good value. We shared foccacia - hot and crusty but while one of the two dips/sides was very good, the other made no sense with the bread. A beet and endive salad was surprisingly boring. Companion's snapper on pasta with olives and sorrel was ... well, really bland. The large strips of pasta didn't taste fresh and made no sense under the nicely done fillet; the dish overall was disjointed and it had no spark.

My bacon-corn seafood risotto had good flavor, apart from being too salty, but the squid, mussels and shrimp were all decidedly overcooked. It also was a small portion, being an appetizer, although priced closer to an entree. I'd planned on having two starters rather than an entree as many on TripAdvisor suggest, but waitperson insisted it would be too much food. Given the disappointing quality, it's just as well I didn't drop another 50 shekels, but had the food been good, I would have still been hungry.

Even so, we skipped dessert, although the new waitperson was a bit pleasanter and tried to coax a sale - the descriptions were too fussy and self-important to be appealing, so we decided to drop our dessert money elsewhere.

There are more enjoyable, welcoming, less expensive restaurants with better-prepared seafood within easy walking distance if Shila, if being seen at THE trendy spot isn't your top priority.
