It is located in a 150-year-old building and hosts readings by Israel's best-known writers. Tmol Shilshom is named after Nobel laureate S.Y. Agnon's novel (translated as "Those Were the Days"). My daughter had heard of Timol Shilshom so as a treat i took her there for her birthday. Everything about this restaurant is wonderful. We had omelets that were delicious and freshly squeezed orange juice in addition to tasting dishes and wonderful bread. The coffee and the banana bread were superb. The waitresses are gracious and efficient and the chef came to our table and shared a recipe. The owner for whom this is not only a business but clearly a labor of love is very special. We were surrounded by books and the architecture of Jerusalem with high domed ceilings and a beautiful original tile floor. The price for breakfast was very reasonable. I left some papers on the table and when my daughter ran back to the restaurant, the waitress actually poked through the garbage till she found them. Now that's service!!

The place is located in the old neighborhood of Nachalat Shiva'a in the center of the city.
Food is good, especially the Italian Shakshooka.
You can stay and read as much as you like, there are books in Hebrew and English.
They have a nice but small porch which in the summer gets filled quickly.
Service is good, waitresses are polite and fast.

We really enjoyed this combination bookstore and restaurant. The people there were very friendly. Our server was especially cooperative. The food was very good and reasonably priced.
We liked the laid back, comfortable atmosphere. They were serving special foods for this time
of year. Would definitely return..

Off the main drag, around the corner, down the alley, up the stairs and past the garden terrace you'll find (if you're lucky) the best little-known restaurant in all of Jerusalem. It's called Tmol Shilshom (translation literally means "Yesterday and the Day") and it's a restaurant, cafe and a bookstore—but don't feel like you have to be quiet in there.

The first thing you'll notice is the ancient architecture with stone tiles, barrel-vaulted ceilings, stone archways, plaster walls, iron ceiling candelabras and tall cut-glass windows. Then you'll see lots of books and nooks with comfortable armchairs and antique couches for reading, contemplation and conversation.

Then you'll eat. Everything is fresh and delectable. This is a dairy kosher restaurant, so don't go in expecting pork or steak, but don't worry—you won't go hungry with their fantastic pastas, amazing Israeli salads, homemade breads and phenomenal concoctions ranging from couscous like you've never had it to Swiss chard pancakes...

Leave room for dessert. You won't be able to, but do it anyway.

Try to make a reservation. This place fills up and stays filled up—but if you drop the name of a local Jerusalema they'll go the distance to make room...
