“Come see Jesus.”
Reviewed March 30, 2014 via mobile

This is why we come to the Christian Quarter.
Seems most traffic, at least regarding tourist, comes via Jaffa Gate. Thus Christian Quarter seems the busiest.
It is choke-full of markets. Don't let this be a distractor. Move through the market, better yet around it. Or immerse yourself in it.
Besides, the Christian Quarter holds Christ's Tomb and most of the Stations of the Cross.

Tip 1: Resist the urge to continue into the Christian Quarter via the obvious path, the path choke-full of vendors. Go another route to the sites.

Tip 2: Enter via the New Gate and avoid the shock of Jaffa Gate. The New Gate will feel like your own private entrance. You can just as easily locate the extraordinary sites mentioned above from the New Gate.

“stayed at Christ Church guest house”
Reviewed March 13, 2014

great location to most sites. Can walk back and forth to the market on David St.Not sure many of the folks that had shops on David St. were really Christian... Rampart's Walk can be started there, at the tower of David. The Jaffa Gate is within this quarter and is a very safe entry and exit to and from the old city. Many good small cafes, can get money changed there, find guided tours. Felt very safe walking this area..

“The Old City”
Reviewed February 11, 2014

If this is the first and possibly the last time that you will visit the Old City, I strongly recommend hiring a guide or going out on a "free" (tips only basis) tour offered by Sandemans New Jerusalem (9:30 and 12pm everyday and 2:30pm Saturday thru Thursday - meeting at Yaffa Gate).
If you want to go it alone, make sure to take a "Pilgrims' Map of the Holy Land" at the Visitor's Center (also located at Yaffa gate). Allow yourself time to walk around at your own pace and go on an adventure of your own. If you are not Christian, do not be shy to walk into any of the churches, no one is judging you (just make sure to dress (especially during the warmer weather) and behave appropriately. Many of the churches are richly decorated and have impressive artwork that would make many museums green with envy.
Af for purchasing anything... BARGAIN!!!
