“A landmark”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 28, 2012

Directly across the street from the legendary KingDavid Hotel, the YMCA, known colloquially as "YIMKA" is a landmark whose soaring tower makes it easily identified. Built by the same archictect who designed the Empire State Building it has an good cafe-restaurant good for lunch, especially on Saturdays when many are closed for the Sabbath.

“YMCA - Old World Charm”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2012

The YMCA in Jerusalem is an institution, but first I want to mention something humurous- the hotell elevator. This is certainly the smallest elevator in Israel, maybe the world. You can step inside with your suitcase, that is all. One by one you go up and down, without luggage two people can squeeze in, it's funny and cute.

The hotel food is not kosher and thus the clientele are typically non-American backpackers, European groups, journalists and low-level foreign officials. Also they have a kids school and summer camp and it's a YMCA, so people are coming and going for the sports facilities- it's a very bustling place to stay.

The rooms are older but not too tired. A face lift would be good but for the cost it is very good, for the location and service and excellent value.

The hotel location is awesome, opposite the King David hotel on King David Street (obviously), you can see the hotel citadel from 'almost' anywhere in Jerusalem- and the building itself is magnificent.. The building history is on plagues through the hallways and lobby. It has arches everywhere, old style domes roofs, middle eastern colors, rich furniture, and everything is stone, everything.

It's is not a luxurious experience, but it is an authentic one, I recommend the YMCA hotel for budgeted travelers who can afford better than a hostel but not a luxurious hotel.
