A fantastic journey below the old city, along the unexposed portions of the wailing wall (western wall).
This isn't a "disney ride", its actually the one of the most profound archaeological tours anywhere in the world.

In all my years living and visiting Israel, I had never taken this tour. I learned a tremendous amount (even with a substantial background in the area) and found the tour helped to visually conceptualize some of the history. The guide was wonderful and I really appreciated their models in understanding the Temple. We took two young children on the tour (4 and 1) and they made it through but were a little squirrely by the end. Older children would love it.

I like mystery, places which seem hidden. The tour is one hour and you see sunlight again in the Arab quarter. There, security guards walk you to the start. Or, you walk the bottom of the Via Dolorosa out the Lions Gate towards Mt of Olives and Kidron Valley.

I managed to squeeze on a tour of the Western Wall as normally you have to book this in advance which i would recommend.

I will not give too much away as the tour is excellent but you find out about the history of the Temple Mount, why and how Herod set about building this fantastic place and also what has happened there over the last 2,000 years.

You get a trip through the history and the way in which various different cultures from the Muslims, Christians, Romans and Jews have been involved in the city throughout the ages. You learn about ancient construction methods, why the site is of such significance to the Jewish and Muslim cultures in addition to what changes were made to the layout of an enture valley to create what you now see as Jerusalem.

A must do if you visit Jerusalem!

Don't miss this easy to book and insightful tour. The megalith placed in the Western Wall is one of the largest cut stones used in an ancient structure. This will define my visit to the Wall.
