Owner description: The Toy Bar offers something for everyone. Do you feel like drinking with your friends? The top floor features a fashionable, pleasant and spacious bar where you can choose from a wide variety of drinks as well as some tasty snacks. Do you feel like mingling with the crowd and getting to know new people, come hang out at the lounge bar at the bottom floor, which features another great bar with quality drinks, a groovy atmosphere and comfy sofas.

I'll give this place one thing: it has a reputation to uphold. I was told it's "the best bar in Jerusalem." Pfft. It's the most ho-hum, cookie-cutter bar you could imagine, and it actually has the chutzpah to provide ashtrays indoors for their carcinogenic customers. Gag.

Uganda and the Arab bar 10 metres away on Aristobulus street - they are actually the best bars in Jerusalem. They're subversively cool like the new 420 bar, only they are small and cosy and uphold the smoking ban indoors. Winning! (Sira is also cool but smoky as all hell.)

Actually, there is another great thing about Toy Bar - the uniform on the female bartender. Wow. I'd go back in with a gas mask just to enjoy that sight again.

However, a gas mask and a total lack of taste you shall certainly need: this place gets 3 stars for its averageness, and loses 2 stars for its illegal indoor smoking policy.

I love this place. Has two levels: one floor is for the bar and downstairs is the dance place. The music is great. Elad and Ady are great persons! This is the best place in Jerusalem to hangout! Excellent if you go with your friends, I always spend good time here!

After living in Israel for four years, I know how good the nightlife can get. I yearn for the days when I was in graduate school in Israel and could go out any night of the week to a raging party, and stumble home at 3 or 4 in the morning. Yes, graduate school. Yes, people in their late 20s and 30s still go out in Israel (I am crying here in Berkeley, wishing all of my friends would stop calling themselves old and get off the couch).

Tel Aviv is famous for it's nightlife, but the Holy City has one of my favorite spots to dance. Toy Bar (or Tsa-ah-tsuah in Hebrew) is THE spot. You'll have to ask around to find it because, like all of Jerusalem, the best places are tucked in some badly-labeled alley "just down the street, to the left and all the way till you reach the end".

The DJs are excellent and worldly. The clients actually dress up and look sexy (in Jerusalem, there is a lot of pressure to not be sexy and it can get cold so things get a little casual sometimes). The drinks are made pretty well - I've had some hits (mojito) and some misses (overly sweet special cocktail) but more importantly, the bartenders are quick and on top of their job.

I have seen many famous people come through, and the crowd is usually a good mix. Every night brings different faces, but there are plenty of regulars (like I was) who cannot get enough. I always go to Toy Bar when I am in town and any friend of mine traveling to Israel knows that Toy Bar is a must-visit (after a long day at the Dead Sea).

Amazing place. Go there. Go wild.

There are dozens of similar places in Jerusalem, nothing special about this one. Jaffa street has the main attractions. No public transportation on weekends.
