Background: The walls around the Old City of Jerusalem were built by Suleiman the Magnificent in 1542. Most of the gates within these walls were designed by Siran, an Ottoman-Turkish architect.
Zion gate is located on Mount Zion, and is the source of its name. It is also known as the gate to the Jewish Quarter due to its proximity to this section of the Old City. The best way to experience the splendor of the gates of the Old City is to take a walk all around the Old City walls via the wraparound ramparts.
