Owner description: The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, also called the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre, or the Church of the Resurrection by Eastern Christians, is a church within the Christian Quarter of the walled Old City of Jerusalem. It is a few steps away from the Muristan. The site is venerated as Golgotha (the Hill of Calvary), where Jesus was crucified, and is said also to contain the place where Jesus was buried (the Sepulchre). A trend among visitors to the spot (standing outside the Church) is to applaud loudly during the ringing of bells. This is to recognize the unique beauty of the Church and its unique history.

“Holy place”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2013

For the me the Christ's Tomb was nothing special.
The place has historical value and it was nice to go there once or twice.
Usually it's a bit crowded, but I like to hear the mess on Easter.

“Central part of visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2013

For a christian, the place is a must visit and the central part of the visit. The Church is archaic and has a very strong religious flavor. Right time to visit is early morning and evening, when the crowd is less and it is more quiet. The Evening procession at 5pm by the Franciscans is a daily procession that one must take chance to participate in!

“But where?”

Both Garden Tomb and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre claim to be authentic, but only one is? Who wants to die and ask Him themself first?

“Jesus Inc...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2012

Jesus’s Tomb is pretty much run like a hot dog tourist stand nowadays with long queues & day tours overwhelming what should be a place of solemn reflection. Tourists overwhelmingly outnumber worshippers in this museum-like church full of old things & shiny bling. Anybody praying too long in the tomb will likely cop a barrage of aggressive gestures from priests & kicked out, christ, some of these priests should just relax.

The stone tomb is carved with skilful Roman craftsmanship & richly decorated with Christian Orthodox light fixtures & ornaments which are a little over-the-top for a carpenter’s son. It seems that Jesus’s death far outshines his life here & has sadly become a tourist attraction more than a holy pilgrimage site. You can buy a Jesus fridge magnet or sit for a coffee around the corner, only missing the Jesus t-shirts in various spring colours to complete the humiliation of Christ all over again.
