Owner description: Following two devastating wars and 20 years of enemy occupation, the Jewish Quarter of Old Jerusalem was reconstructed with great attention to harmonious architectural detail. The highlight of the quarter is the excavation of the Cardo, the ancient Roman market street.

“Nicest in the Old City”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

The Cardo is the best shopping area in the Old City. Many fine stores with unique items. Relatively open and spacious, compared to the other very crowded market areas. Reasonable prices for the quality.

“Jewish quarter, Jerusalem.”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

Great place full of history and learning. I was surprised that Jerusalem is split into four quarters...Jewish, Christian, Armenian and Moslem.

“Shopping center within a historic setting.”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

Elsewhere in a tripadvisor review I have written about the meaning of a cardo in ancient Roman cities in general. This one is one of the most historic in the former Roman World. Notice the lower street level in Roman times. Notice the city walls of different eras. Notice the Sabbath Gate, open except on the Jewish Sabbath, but you can skip the shopping here for the most part, in my opinion.

“Shopping here is a must!”
Reviewed November 8, 2012

Check out Mira's. Great quality and descent prices for beautiful jewelry. And you won't find their jewelry all over America when you get home, which is a definite plus in making it all the more special. (check out the place right next to it also for more traditional Judaic Chatzkees)
