Don't waste your precious time in Jerusalem on this museum. I am sure this museum has not been changed since its' opening in the 1930's. The museum is a relic of how museum's used to function. Your entrance to the museum is a perfect illustration of your visit to follow. Outside is a beautiful, ancient sarcophagi, with no explanation of what you are seeing. Once inside you will find the bigger pieces have explanations in Hebrew, Arabic, and English. The smaller pieces have numbers only. There are plastic covered sheets of paper you can pick up with explanations. Some of them are clearly from a typewriter.

The Israel Museum is phenomenal with a much great treasure trove of antiquities that are better displayed. Don't waste your time here, and spend more time at the Israel Museum.

The museum is not as big as I thought it would be, but it contains lots of interesting items, and The best part is that the entrance is free.

The collection charts the history of Israel and contains pieces from the Egyptian period, the Canaanites and all the different historical groups, as well as re Mameluke and Ottoman periods - including beautiful wood carvings from the Al Aqsa mosque. The roman collection is particularly good. Free entry makes this really feel like a gem - date building itself is in a good location with views over the city walls. Well worth a visit for the historically minded

This museum is the first in Israel. Set in an amazingly beautiful building, has archeological exhibits 100,000 years old. Great explanations to all you see in English, Hebrew and Arabic. Beautiful internal garden. Not too big. You visit for 2-3 hours, enjoy the pleasant halls, drink cold water supplyed for free from a cooler and see the beautiful landscape. The entrance and parking inthe museum are free. So good.
