I enjoy the grounds. And the memorial to the father of modern zionism is well done. It makes one take responsability.

The relatively new Herzl Museum at the not-new Mt. Herzl cemetery is not to be missed. It's a great introduction to Zionism and the State of Israel's history for those unfamiliar. Even those who have a lifetime of reading behind them on the topic will enjoy the presentation, as it is artistic and high tech and very well done. WARNING: You need an advance reservation. Be sure to specify if you need a tour in English. The new light-rail from the center of Jerusalem takes you right to this site, so it should really not be missed by tourists traveling on their own in Israel.

You have got to go to the Herzl Museum on Mount Herzl. It lays an indispendable foundation for understanding the creation of Israel. Our kids were able to follow the tour & movie & understand what really happened. This is great for adults too.

Also, don't miss the headstones for Rabin & other heroic Israelis. It's stirring!

Mount Herzl is just above Yad Vashem, you can walk there and take the connecting trail and get more Israeli history on this gentle sloping trail up to Mt. Herzl. There are sign posts along the way memorializing key moments in Israeli history. Rabin's grave was closed to the public when we were there due to a big memorial service. We did get to see Herzl's grave and hear the story of his family who are also buried nearby. Worth an extra hour if you have it and you are at Yad Vashem (a must see).

One should make some time to walk through this memorial/monument park. It offers not only places of reflection but also historical information of national figures that helped shape Israel. The landscaping and flora are also appreciated.
