My family and I stayed for three days in the center of Jerusalem. The Lutheran Guest House is clean, confortable, modern, yet simple. The breakfast is great, and the location unbeateable. It has an old computer that people can use for free and there is a wifi zone if you bring your own. Great value for the money.

We stayed here as a couple, and it was a pretty good experience overall. The location is perfect, the whole place is spotlessly clean, the rooms are beautiful and the breakfast is sufficient. Where it really falls down is the staff. Some of the staff (Johnny in particular) are fantastic, but others are just atrocious, which kinda messes up the whole experience. Minor problems are met with a helpless shrug, while a mix up with the check-out day becomes a belligerent finger-pointing session... totally unpleasant and unnecessary! Do stay here, but be warned...!

Room Tip: Rooms with balconies on the second floor have an amazing view!

Our experience here was very positive. The rooms are modest and comfortable; the furnishings and facilities are nice. We were so pleasantly surprised to look out the window and see the Dome of the Rock.
The location is quite good for the Old City, near the Jaffa Gate. As TravelMaven noted, you must walk cobbled paths and stairs the Old City to get here, so heavy luggage or wheels can prove burdensome. The Guest House is still close enough to the Gate to be convenient to other locations, such as the Mamilla mall or Zion Square.
There is no t.v. in the room, but the location and accommodation make this place a great value and I definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: Room 25 has a balcony and view of Dome of the Rock.

I agree with many of the positive review that have been written before me. The Lutheran Guesthouse is superb. It is clean, elegant and wonderfully located in the Old City - close enough to the Jaffa gate to walk to it within minutes, which means you have easy access to both the Old City and the New City as well as many great attractions like entrance to the Ramparts Walk and the City of David Tower and for the more modern, the chic Mamilla Mall. You can walk either through the souk or along the rooftops to get to all four Old City quarters from the guesthouse. This walk, however, is troublesome with heavy luggage - there is no car access. Do note that it is possible to arrange a porter for your bags if you speak ahead of time with the front desk staff. Cost is approximately 50 shekels.
The rooms here are air conditioned, en suite although they don't come with some of the creature comforts of the big hotels like TV or Wifi - only a problem if this is something that interests you. There is Internet in the guesthouse - one computer on dial-up but it's free and sufficient. The garden, courtyard and views of the Old City here are stunning. The service is warm and efficient - the front desk staff is more than happy to arrange bookings on your behalf and make local recommendations for restaurants and tour sites. What we particularly enjoyed about the Guesthouse was how quiet it was despite its location in the heart of a very busy and active area a welcome respite to come back to after a long day of exploring in Jerusalem. The Lutheran Guesthouse was one of the best hotel experiences we have had - both in Israel and the rest of the world.

Room Tip: You can request a room with a view of the Dome of the Rock.

If you're willing to embrace the historical simplicity & modesty of this special location you'll feel very at home. To arrive at this guest house you must walk cobbled paths and stairs through old Jerusalem. Heavy luggage or wheels can prove burdensome (I won't make any analogies here but you get the picture). The guest house itself has marvelous views and although the rooms are small they are exceptionally tidy and only steps from larger communal areas (couches, books, a piano, gardens, wi-fi). Some of the city's most impressive sights are within a few minutes walk. Staff will advise. Breakfast is plentiful & impeccable. (Food is not Halal or Kosher but ALL are most welcome). I would stay here over a big commercial (expensive) hotel anytime.
