My husband and i have just spent 6 nights at this amazing hotel. They found out that it was our 25th wedding anniversary and gave us a bottle of wine to celebrate. The staff were amazing. The food excellent and the rooms although quite small were truly the best value for money. We spent 6 nights here and then 3 nights at the american colony and I must say the the jerusalem hotel far out weighs the colony, in charm, attention to detail and how they treat the guest. I must add if you are a diplomat or journalist the colony caters for you but if you are a tourist this hotel is superior in every way to the colony.
We are avid travellers and if you want value for money, friendly service go for this hotel

Like its pricier neighbor, the American Colony Hotel, the Jerusalem Hotel is a quiet, charming, well-located hotel five minutes walk to the Old City in one direction and the Orthodox neighborhood of Mea Shea'rim in the other. Built in traditional Jerusalem stone, with ceilings that must be 20' high, it's traditional in every sense: decor, style, and hospitality. The telephone system could be improved, but otherwise, it's a place for the traveler seeking Old World charm with free wireless service in every room. If only every hotel were so pleasant! Without being as long-winded as some other reviews, let me add: an excellent restaurant with great live music on Friday nights, and a full selection of reasonable "alternative" tours that give some perspective to what you are seeing. If you can't afford the American Colony (which I love), don't worry: the Jerusalem Hotel gives you the same charm and flavor.
