“typical old city dump”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2008

As with all old city hotels (if you can call this a hotel) IT WAS small ,dirty ,dark, noisey & dank. The breakfast was pathetic & of couse seved in a dirty environnment . I checked out after 2 nights & went elsewhere. Be very careful when picking a hotel in Jerusalem if you care about cleanliness. Stay out of old city. If you are on a budget just stay home. How this place can rank in the top 3 hotels I will never know.

We desperately needed accommodation at the last minute, having decided to return to Jerusalem for our last three nights. The Gloria Hotel managed to squeeze us in. Our room was quite small, with twin beds, desk, and one chair, but was more than adequate considering we spent all our time out of the hotel. The bathroom was huge, with a large cupboard and shower in the bath. All the furniture looked new.

The staff were exceptionally helpful, especially Samir, and they allowed us to check out very late (7 pm) on our last night. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there on our next trip.

The only negative factor was the dining room. The tables weren't cleared and reset after use. On almost every occasion, we had to sit at a table that still had crumbs on it and no cutlery. The breakfast was fine, and we didn't eat dinner there so we can't comment.

  • Liked — Comfortable and neat
  • Disliked — Untidy dining-room

I stayed one night at the Gloria Hotel, after experiencing the awful New Imperial Hotel. The Gloria is definitely the best quality/price ratio of any hotel I have visited. Truly, you can easily find better, more luxurious, but for 120$ a two-bed room, including breakfast, this hotel has it all: clean, friendly personnel, good breakfast, tastefully decorated, air-conditioned room, real bath with a decent water flow (not the trickle I experienced elsewhere). When many hostels in Jerusalem ask for up to 80$ a night, this hotel was really a bargain. And it is within the walls the Old City, what more can one ask for?

We stayed at the Gloria for 16 nights while in Jerusalem. It was great to be staying in the Old City, very convenient location. The hotel staff was gracious, eager to help, and very accomodating of our needs. The food was excellent - particularly the dinners, a great spread of delicious choices. Rooms were more modern than I'd expected while the lobby and lounges still afforded the Old City ambience.

  • Liked — The food and friendly staff
  • Disliked — Noise level - hallways echoed noise made by people walking, opening doors, etc.

Everyone at the Gloria is helpful and courteous. They do their best to accommodate the needs and desires of their customers.

I led a group of 14 that stayed at the Gloria for three weeks. Everyone agreed the hospitality shown was excellent, the food was excellent (the price includes breakfast and dinner each day!), the accommodations were fun (the Gloria's location within Jerusalem's Old City walls was an extra treat!), and the people treated us like family.

I'm happy to recommend the Gloria to those who desire nice accommodations, friendly and helpful staff, great food, and the special ambience only Jerusalem's Old City can offer.

My family and I stayed at the Gloria in June 2008. We can't believe that for $100/night, we could stay within the walls of the Old City in such a pleasant hotel with a fantastic atmosphere. If we had stayed at the larger hotels, we would have walked 15 minutes or more just to get to the Old City--and paid at least $300-$500 a night. At the Gloria, we were RIGHT THERE.

The refurbished lobby is now on ground level. There's also an open-air patio that's delightful. Wi-fi is free and works well on the ground floor, but wasn't dependable in our room. The room was clean and well set-up. We had a view of the inside of the city wall, and bells rang in each morning. The free breakfast was fine, though not outstanding.

All in all, we would always choose the Gloria for the price and especially the location. The owners and staff were first-rate. It's no wonder this hotel is ranked so high.

My husband and I stayed at the Gloria at the end of March, around Easter and were pleasantly surprised. When we arrived into Tel Aviv, we immediately were able to find a minibus to Jerusalem, which pulled up virtually right outside the hotel. It was so easy to find; there is a big brown sign for the Gloria Hotel, just inside the Jaffa Gate, which is just down a side street. You can't go wrong!

After an overnight flight, we were really tired and arrived at the hotel at 7am in the morning. We (hopefully) asked the guy at the front desk when we could check in and he very kindly let us check in then and there! We were escorted to our room, which was located in the newly renovated building across the road, by an elderly gentleman. The room itself was pretty basic in every aspect, the furniture, the bedding and the bathroom. However, it was very clean and tidy.

Most of the hotel has been newly renovated, with the exception of the last couple of upper floors, including the roof top terrace, which, at the moment, isn't very nice. However, when they do finish, it will be a great area and it has a lot of potential.

The lobby area and bar is lovely and it's a pity that it was so quiet when we were there, as would have hung out there. We just went into town instead.

The breakfast was pretty average. Not so much to choose from and not overly fresh, but enough to fill you up for the morning.

However, the location just can't be beat. Right in the heart of things, but not too noisy either. Really brilliant! And the service was outstanding. All in all, if you don't mind a basic room, this was a real haven from the busy streets of Jerusalem and definitely recommend staying there at any time!
