Definitely a must-see in Jerusalem. The museum is so beautifully set up, and tells so many separate stories; it comes together in an amazing way. It's hard to describe and is something you really have to see for yourself. It's an experience I will never forget.

I particularly wanted to visit the Garden of the Righteous (formerly the Avenue of Righteous Gentiles). The sheer number of people prepared to literally put their neck on the line for others is very moving.

This almost left me speechless. Our only other visit to a holocaust memorial was to the one in Washington D.C and the two are nowhere near comparable. In terms of size, exhibits, and information Yad Vashem is enormous. Unfortunately, we were visiting on Friday afternoon and they close early and we were not able to take in the entire area as it is. Very convenient to Mount Herzl and a light rail station. No entrance charge, bag check and a very good eatery.

I had visited the Holocaust Memorial in Washington D.C., but Yad Vashem is on an entirely different level. The Memorial is much larger that I imagined and very powerful. It's the largest repository of information on the Holocaust in the entire world. It's almost impossible to tour the Memorial with out sheddding a few tears, especially going through the Childrens Memorial. The Garden of the Righteous of All Nations was fascinating - a tree was planted in the name of each non-Jewish person that helped the Jews during the Holocaust. It was especially interesting to see the tree planted in honor of Oskar Schindler, who saved 1,200 Jews. It's not someplace that I could say I "enjoyed" visiting, but I wouldn't have missed it for anything!!
