You can spend a week going through this place-make sure you go early to have enough time to get round the place.
Also open on shabbat but the cafes are not so rake something to eat and drink

I visited the Israel Museum intent on seeing the Dead Sea Scrolls, but there is so much more than that to see. You can easily become overwhelmed by the vast amount of treasures that go back thousands of years all obtained in Israel. The archeological exhibit is extensive. The museum is for all ages, I saw children coloring in one exhibit room, and an elderly woman with a walker in another. The outdoor model of the ancient city of Jerusalem really helped to put the city in historical perspective. I spent 4 hours here, and didn't see everything. The only disappointing exhibit was the temporary exhibit of Bamboo. Unless you have children, who would love it, don't waste 10 shekels. Otherwise, plan on spending some of your time in Israel at this outstanding museum. It is one of the best in the world for antiquities.

We went to the Israel Museum during a free night opening. It was very cool and I would recommend it to anyone looking forward to spend some entertaining ours. The museum features art from different cultures and epochs. Sometime there are live event, like in our case an African music group was playing.

Outside there is a huge model of Jerusalem as it was at the birth of Jesus, very different of course to how it looks today but very interesting. Sections of the Dead Sea Scrolls are on display, I expected small pieces but some of them are quite large and very interesting to read the information about how they were discovered in jars in a cave relatively recently. There is also one of the first copies of the Quoran on display.
