Wonderful surprise in Jerusalem was the Israel museum. Easy to find. Helpful staff. Exciting exhibits and outstanding permanent collection. Dead Sea Scrolls and the Codex. Model of the Jerusalem at the time of the second Temple was unique. Cafe and restaurant dining available. Language guides as well as personal guides available. A must!!!

“Herod exhibit”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

We went to the Israel Museum at the end of one day but it was too late but undaunted we returned the next day before we ventured out to the Sea of Galilee since the tour guides said come early or come late because the tour is so popular among the Israeli people that the line can be looooong. After visiting Masada, the Herod exhibit is a must see although it is a temporary exhibit. The buildings that Herod constructed in his lifetime are amazing. We saw some of the other exhibits including the Dead Sea scrolls but there is literally too much to see.

“Wow!”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

Our second time there. So much to see. Exhibits are amazing. Our favorites were the complete synagogues and the antiques-artifacts. The Dead Sea Scrolls and mini Israel exhibit are all part of this complex and not to be missed. Still much to see in another trip!

“one of the best”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

I've been to many excellent museums around the world, some less known than others, this is one of the best ones. Recently renovated (built anew really...) it encompasses things you will not encounter elsewhere, regional, Jewish, Jerusalem-related items and exhibitions. I will not go over the highlights (there's a highlights tour), but will suggest that once you've bought your ticket you spend a couple of minutes with the kind volunteers at the opposite counter to get advice, a map and a list of current events, then sit for a second and decide what's most interesting to you (you can spend an hour or an entire day and be equally satisfied). One thing that is usually missed is the sculpture garden - don't! It is beautiful and very scenic. Also, people miss the lockers at the entrance and schlep with everything on their back - ask for them and use them, they're free! I should also mention there are three places to have a snack or a proper meal so don't worry about that...

“A world-class museum”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

What an amazing place. From the complete synagogues imported from around the world to the antiquities to the incredible art collection to the sculpture garden, I can't say enough about the quality of this place. Don't forget the Dead Sea scrolls!
