When tracing the ancient steps of Christ, this is an area that must be visited. It is a very spiritual journey.

The garden is located on Jericho Rd. on the ascend road to the Mt of Olives. Recommended walking tour would be to leave the old city through the Lions Gate, making a stop over at the St Stephe's Church, Tomb of the Virgin Mary, The Garden of Gathsemane (located in the same gated area as the Gethsemane Basilica of Agony (all Nation). COntinue to ascend the road to the Mary Magdalene Church (CHECK OPENING TIMES - EACH INSTITUTION VARIES OPENING HRs), Dominus Flevit Church (look out the window and see the juxtaposition of the cross and the Dome of the Rock (quite interesting, I would like to think that the architect believed that the two religions can coexist in peace :) then continue to the Jewish cemetery. From here, other thatn the amazing view, note the Arab cemetery that is located right near the Old City Golden Gate (ifyou have time, visit that one as well and note the difference - judge for yourself if you want). If you continue up, you will come to the Tomb of the Prophets (again note the OPENING HOURS). The location of it is quite awkward - literally in someone's backyard. Continue up and make a right to reach an observation point from which you can see a beautiful sun set over the Old City (note if you plan to see the sunset you will not be able to see all of the churches on the way). This is not an easy walk!

This is a very spiritual place with ancient olive trees that date almost back to the time of Christ. Just being there and reflecting back to the stories in the Bible of Jesus being arrested bring chills to you. It is a must see while in Jerusalem.

Note that the garden of gethsame is best found by exiting the old city via the lions gate. You walk up on the road to the mount of olives and you are soon there by entering a gate. Tour guides are everywhere and it wasn't as intimate as an experience as I had hoped.

For Christians this place was very moving and a place for reflection. Bring your Bible and get immersed in the story Luke 22:39-46. Brinsg the story to life - and go into the Church of All Nations nearby
