Owner description: Located outside the walls of Jerusalem, this beautiful garden among a grove of olive trees is thought to be the place where Jesus particularly enjoyed prayer and contemplation.

Marred only really by the queues of busses parked along the road outside (though at least not in front), the garden with really ancient olive trees was redolent with prayers and passion. The church was fine - it was the trees I was really there for

Stop by the garden where Jesus prayed asking God if there was any other way to save us. It will touch your heart as you think about what happened in the Garden and while Jesus prayed his disciples slept.

Getting to the Garden from the old city requires crossing a busy street and maybe some taxi drivers who would like to drive you to Bethlehem, but it is worth the short walk. The church has a beautiful interior with its mosaics. A view to the west with the sun reflecting off the Dome of the Rock is good.

It was very interesting that the olive trees are two thousand years old and the Fransican Monks walk in the garden and look after the gardens

What tourists get to see is only a small part of the original Gethsemane garden, the other one is (probably) closed. This small part is packet with tourist groups, so it doesnt really have much of an atmosphere.
