I'd urge anyone visiting Jerusalem to make the journey to the top of the Mount of Olives during your stay even if it's just a short visit.
The panoramic views are just superb.
The best time to visit is in the morning when it's a little cooler, and the sun is better positioned for photos. But if that's not possible visit anyway - the view is immense -you'll see the Western Wall, The Dome of the Rock, the Jewish cemetery and many other sites from here.

Living in Haifa, I just love visiting Jerusalem, for sure one of the nicest cities in the world. Many times I brought groups for a daily tour (wether walking or biking) and my prefered starting point is Mount of Olives. From the Gandhi lookout point, you can explain the group what the itinerary will be during the whole day. The 180 deg. landscape view with the old city and the Temple Mount just in front of you is just breathaking, not only for the new visitor but also for a vet like me. The jewish and moslem cemetries can be seen from here and you can have a short camel ride with the old city at the background. If you can spend some 2-3 hours at the area, i reccomend the churches on the top of Mount of Olives, and you can walk down through a serpentine road down to the Gethsemane gardens and church followed by a visit to the Grotto church. Just great.

This was my first trip to Israel, the weather was very pleasant for walking and sight seeing. I was on a tour organized by the cruise ship I was on, the guide while I had no choice is everything.
the day was spent looking at various sites with lunch at a beautiful hotel. For those who read the bible and have a little knowledge of the area it is a most interesting place to go, while the place is far from what it must have been when Christ was there, just to be in the area where HE walked and was finally crucified ,offering Himself without spot to God, was a real experience

We had a private tour with Ana Shalaev (cell: 050 912 3444)/ ( ana.shalaev@gmail.com) and the experience was unforgettable! After days of crowded Ben Harim tours we were beyond thankful to have such a knowledgeable, kind and exciting young guide. Ana was full of energy and happy to help us in any way, even stopping for us to take special pictures and do camel rides. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend her. Tours in 32+ celcius heat can be very exhausting so i would sincerely advise to take a pass on organized group tours . Eitehr way a private tour is much more convenient, flexible and customized. Ana is fluent in Russian, English and Hebrew and a univertsiy specialist on archaeology, history and theology.
