Enjoyed our time at the mount of Olives, were able to have some nice time to meditate. The church paintings told the story so well. Watch and pray...

We went up onto the MMount more than once. Highlight was visit to a small olive grove that could have been the original garden of Gethsemene. If it wasn't then it cannot have been far removed as it was outside the city walls and on the lower slopes of mount of Olives. A very special place to reflect for the Christian.

Never missed to remember to pray the Lord's prayer. I thank the Lord always. I am glad to bring some of my friends here in my recent travel in Sept., 2013.

Somehow the Mount of Olives is always in the distance wherever I am in Jerusalem and beckons me to visit. The easiest way is to take a cab (60 NIS) to the Seven Arches Hotel and wander down. From the summit one has wonderful views in all directions.

Make sure to visit The Tombs of the Prophets to get a feel for what the Cemeteries must have looked like in previous centuries. The many Churches off to one's right as you descend are all very impressive, but not that old. I much prefer the Gardens and gnarled old (very) olive trees.

One Church, St. Mary Magdalene, has a special appeal as it contains the grave of Princess Alice of Battenberg, Prince Philip's mother who became a nun and is also a Righteous Amongst the Gentiles for saving a Jewish family during the war in Greece. However, it is never open to visitors.

Near the bottom courses of the Jewish graves there is one painted blue which invariably has Orthodox men praying there. This is the Grave of Chaim ben Moses ibn Attar also known as the Ohr ha-Chaim. The first time I visited some 7 years ago I had just been studying his works in a Torah class the week previous and to be praying at his grave was very moving. Legend has it that when the Jordanians were destroying the graves pre 1948 a tractor overturned killing the workman. The grave was left untouched.

At the railing you can gaze out over the Kidron Valley and the tops of the larger Tombs of Absalom and Jehoshaphat. Many years ago I fed a herd of goats there, but that was before the brick walkway was installed.

If you have the energy walk the roads back up to the Dung Gate and take in the distant views of where you have just been. You will get a feel for the expression ' went up to Jerusalem' !!
