If you visit Gethsemane when it is crowded, the movement of humans will take you right to the entrance of this beautiful basilica. We were there when a priest was conducting mass for a small tour group. Instead of being reverent, people were talking, laughing, taking selfies and using flash cameras while mass was being conducted. I was wishing there was a greater level of security to control this behavior. In fact, they could have used bigger and more signs at the entrance as well. “Service in progress”. “No Flash”. “No talking”. Go in and try to appreciate the murals and stained glass. Near the altar there is a portion of the rock Jesus is said to have agonized on when he prayed “ not my will but thine be done”. There is a mural to the right of the altar that shows Jesus and some disciples at the moment of his betrayal. He seems to glow. I shut my eyes and shut out the noise and tried to pray.

Architecture is wonderful. It is not as commercial as some have become. It's a beauty to visit though expect it to be crowded. People are good about going through and moving on but it's still crowded.

This is a Roman Catholic church located next to the Garden of Gethsemane. It enshrines a section of bedrock where Jesus was said to have prayed before his arrest. Make sure you look up at the beautiful windows and ceilings.

This sight is popular with tour busses and parking is a real challenge. The crowds go quicly through the church and the church is large enough to accommodate a large crowd. One enters the area by going through a Garden Olives with some very old trees. Our guide said none of these trees were there during the time of Christ.
