Owner description: The main entrance to Jerusalem’s Old City faces the west toward the old port of Jaffa, and is located next to one of the city’s best-known sites, the Tower of David or Citadel. There are seven gates open: New Gate, Zion, Dung, Jaffa, Lions’ (St. Stephen's), Herod’s, and Damascus (Shechem).

The Jaffa gate is a nice entrance to the Old City. There is not to much by the gate, a few options for food and places to buy souvenirs. It is very busy though with people coming in and out of the Old City. But it is a nice place to rest up for 15mins before carrying on.

The gate itself isn't particularly mind-blowing, but it's a good place to start your tour of the old city. It's also a nice place to sit on a bench and people watch. Be sure to visit the tourist information center next to the Gate, the staff are very helpful. As others have said, you will be approached by the usual suspects begging you to visit their families shop or to take a guided tour. I would recommend against taking a tour with any of these people.

If you are looking for a good restaurant in this area of Jerusalem, start here. There are many places steps away from Jaffa gate.

This is one of the main entrances to the Old City. You can shop at small stores and you walk down the streets our go the David' Citadel.

This is a very popular area for entering the old city. Not surprisingly there are lots of taxi's people asking you if you want a guide and guided tour companies. Taxi's should use their meters and from experience it is best to do so, as I found that what I was paying in agreed (even haggled) fares was actually more than the meter.
To walk the walls of the city, you cannot get all the way around and the longest section seems to be Jaffa to St Stephens Gate. It gives you a very clear view of the city and is good to do at any point in seeing around the city. Tickets are brought for 12 sheckles in the guided tour shop (not the information)
You will find that food is expensive here, but if you follow the road past the entrance to the citadel on the right you will come across a pottery shop, which the artist sits and paints by hand. There are some interesting pieces of art here, some at reasonable prices
The Citadel for Christians is considered to be possible the place that Jesus would have been tried by Pilate
