Owner description: The main entrance to Jerusalem’s Old City faces the west toward the old port of Jaffa, and is located next to one of the city’s best-known sites, the Tower of David or Citadel. There are seven gates open: New Gate, Zion, Dung, Jaffa, Lions’ (St. Stephen's), Herod’s, and Damascus (Shechem).

This is really very much the rouristy (and rip-off) part of the Old City. The traders speak Russian, Hindi, German, French, Japanese - whatever. And they'll sell you anything under the sun - for double!! Try to make your way through to Damascus Gate - and even beyond. That's where the more genuine Arab shops are to be found.

The easiest way to access the old city is via this gate much harder to find esteem wall through the Arab shuk

This is a busy and popular gate to the old city. Some great shopping located both outside and inside the gate. Restaurants and bars are located around here and seemed quite popular at night.

The gate itself is nice to look at but if you have seen many old gates before this one will not enthrall you. However the history behind the walls of Jerusalem and the adjacent Tower of David are very captivating and interesting. Use Jaffa Gate as a landmark to get around.

When in Jerusalem I live very close to Jafa gate. I always enter into the Old City thru Jaffa gate, so it seems like home to me.
