Owner description: Characterized by narrow, winding streets and alleyways, this ancient part of the city is filled with shrines and attractions holy to Jews, Christians and Muslims including the Western Wall, Temple Mount and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

With so much history, the Old City has plenty to offer. You can walk around the four sections and spend hours soaking up all of the rich history. It is worth the traffic and confusion of the streets so be patient and use maps to guide you.

We visited all four quarters of the Old City in two days. We loved just walking around and climbing stairs to the rooftops to see the views. Via Dolorosa was fun to walk through with its' millions of little shops lining both sides of it. Beware - most restaurants in the Old City do not take credit cards.

Being in the Old City of Jerusalem was like being in a dream. We simply could not believe we were there. It is difficult to describe the sights and sounds, and the impact it has on a visitor. We are not Jewish; however, when we emerged from the warren of streets into the plaza which leads to the Western Wall, I simply was amazed. I will never forget that moment. (Visitors who do not have mobility problems definitely should try the "ramparts walk." You can purchase a ticket to walk most of the way around the Old City on top of the walls. Well worth it and there will be hardly anyone else up there with you!
