Owner description: A hill in the eastern part of Old Jerusalem is of special significance to the world's three major religions. It was reputedly the site of the first and second Jewish Temple, and since the 7th century has contained two Muslim shrines.

The control of the temple mount by Moslem authorities have caused our visits there to be less enjoyable. They forbid you bringing a bible and often have folks following you to hear what is being discussed. The history of the temple mount however makes it necessary for us to visit each time and talk about the ancient temple and the one yet to come.

“Temple Mount & Dome of the Rock”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

As some interested in the long history and the enduring sacredness of the site, I enjoyed my visit. The Dome itself is a spectacular visual site as well. To just get into the Temple Mount (not just the Dome) you need to pass security. If you are a Christian, to ensure you can get don't carry anything that could identify you as such (Bibles, rosary beads, crosses etc). Also make sure you are going on a day/time the Temple Mount is open to non-Muslims! See if you can go with someone who can show you remains of the Temple (but they must be discreet about it!).

“An important religious and historical site”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

This is a very interesting site that should not be missed, no matter what religion you are. The site has been well preserved.

“A challenge to get to, but worht it.”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

Temple Mount is not the easiest thing to visit. You need to line up early at the Dung Gate to have a chance of coming in. Gates close at 1030 a.m. There is strict security and you will be stopped if you have any religious documents on you or Hebrew texts. Once you finally get through security you walk up an improvised walking ramp which gives good view of the Western Wall. Temple Mount itself is then an oasis of Peace and quiet and is of course crowned by the beautiful Dome of the Rock.

“Not my cup of tea, felt dangerous”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Didn't have a friendly feel to it, very very large and hard to get around. Overall was uncomfortable for religious reasons.
