Owner description: A hill in the eastern part of Old Jerusalem is of special significance to the world's three major religions. It was reputedly the site of the first and second Jewish Temple, and since the 7th century has contained two Muslim shrines.

“certain hours”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2012

visitors are allowed on the Temple Mount at certain hours during the day, so check the times. I think the time span is only an hour and a half, and the line is long, so make sure you get there at the beginning of the time allowed.

“View at a Distance”

The gold dome does stand out. Looking at it one can't really discern all the political controversy. Non-Muslims can't go inside the mosque.

“A real shame!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2012

I was disappointed with this visit as the women in our group were treated very badly. We were all appropriately dressed with the exception of two in the group who were wearing shorts but they were prepared and quickly threw on a shawl and sarong in their bags. Apart from the Mosque on the mount there isn't much else to see as the place seemed bare. Also what didn't help was seeing tourists being shouted at to leave (v.rude). A real shame considering its location in a beautiful city.

“Arrive early without backpacks or other items!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

Our tour guides (HLP Tours) were very diligent to prepare our large group to visit the Mount. We arrived at 7:30 prepared as we were instructed: No shorts; women have shoulders and knees covered; have a head-dress prepared for use; NO back-packs, fanny-packs, Bibles, etc. Just a camera and a bottle of water. Unfortunately, a group arrived just ahead of us and their tour guide did NOT prepare them. Each person had to have their carry-ons searched, etc. and this held us up for nearly an hour. Apparently there is no guarantee that you will gain access to the Mount as this is controlled by the "Mufti" and it is soley at his discrection if anyone is admitted to the Mount. Admission is cut off about 9:30 a.m.

We were fortunate enough to be granted access, and we enjoyed walking the Mount and seeing the excavations of the Eastern gate from inside the Mount, as well as where it is believed the 3rd Temple may be built in some future date (By the way, it is believed that the Temple CAN be built on the Mount without causing any destruction of the Dome of the Rock or any other Muslim holy site...).
