We loved this hotel. In our many years of travel, this hotel will be remebered as one of the bes we stayed in. The room was clean and reasonably appointed. The staff was always very helpful, even when the tour operator fouled up on our dates. The hotel itself has a unique style with an archaelogical slant and was fun to observe. It has ample space in the lobby and other areas for watching and meeting friends. It also had a great bar area with friendly staff and good reasonably priced food, as well. The meals were provided in a large attractive dining area. The food was fabulous with extensive buffets for breakfast and supper. The best part, however, was the location. The hotel was a 15 minute saunter to the Damascus Gate. From there, the old city of Jersualem was ready to be explored. There were shops and restaurants between the hotel and the Damascus Gates, as well as other places to explore.

The hotels' interiors gives it an old world charm and the room was cozy. It has a souvenir shop that sold items which were priced comparably with the ones at the city streets . The hotel was quiet full during our stay and sometimes we had to wait in line for the lift, it was faster to go by the emergency stairway than wait for your tun on the lift. The restaurant for breakfast and dinner buffet was quiet modest in size and it can get a little cramped. The food was okay. Nice hotel to stay in Jerusalem.

Stayed at this hotel as part of a packaged tour where the travel agent was specifically told to organize with 5-star hotels. It's closer to a 3-star property. Manager who greeted my tour leader was rude to me. The hotel had no gym or pool and I had to take a $10 cab ride to a university gym it provided a pass for. Rooms are tiny. Hotel didn't provide toiletries or coffee/tea in room until I complained to the tour leader - I mean, isn't that basic for a supposedly top-tier hotel? I've told the travel company NOT to use them in the future. It's definitely NOT 5-star as the travel company claimed.

We had a very pleasant experience at the Olive Tree. We ended up staying 6 nights here on the sixth floor (rm. 631) and found it to be a great base. The rooms are very clean, good mattresses, the bathrooms are very well cared for and clean. Lots of storage space. The rooms are a bit on the small side, but then I think we just had your basic room. I think there are larger ones. The food buffet was great. Lots of fresh vegetables and fruit - and yes - it's okay to eat everything. The staff at the front desk was great - very helpful and always seemed to be happy to help. The hotel also has a couple of great shops on site. Located by a couple of other larger tourist hotels - just a quick 10-15 minute walk from the Garden Tomb and the Damascus Gate. GREAT location. Would stay here again. As for theft - no problem. Of course we locked everything up in the room safe. I can't figure out why anyone would not use their room safe.

Twin beds push together/apart. No fridge. Air conditioning works when the temperature goes up. We opened the window to get cool night air. Food at breakfast and supper was excellent with buffet-type set up--all you can eat including juice, coffee and tea. Prices in the hotel store were good for olive wood carvings, T-shirts, etc. Pool and sports facility not on site. Kids enjoyed the shopping in the old city Jerusalem streets nearby and much cheaper than the stores the tours took us to.

Room Tip: Ironing room down the hallway.

We stayed at Olive Tree Hotel for a few nights to be close to the old area. Breakfast was good and ample in selection. Staff was pleasant. The room was comfortable, but not very clean- we asked to change our sheet. The location is great- little walking distance to the Damascus Gate and old city. If you like walking and admire tipical markets it's one of the best choice. From this area you can get all religious cristian and jewish part. If you want to get to the new part of Jerusalem will take more distance.

My husband and I had heard such wonderful things from reliable Jewish friends in London who said it was near all our holy sites in Jerusalem and some fabulous kosher restaurants. But when we (my husband Benny, Yael 2 and Sammy 4) arrived in our room the toilet had flooded and there was the most terrible mess (I will spare you the details). The hotel reception was very off hand when I called down and it took them over two hours to send someone. He was Palestinian and clearly didn't care, but did clear up. That night, Yael and Sammy started to show serious symptoms (again I spare the details). After three hours of waiting for the hotel doctor we went into the street and flagged down a taxi who took us to the nearest emergency room. It turned out Yael and Sammy had been contaminated by the sewage in our hotel room. They were so sick that we cancelled the holiday and flew back to north London the next day. Todah Rabah to the Olive Tree Hotel. Never again. Can I seriously suggest that you all give this one the old heave ho. Just don't go there.
