We stayed in the Eldan in February 2006 for 4 nights. The location is perfect, a few minute walk to either the old city or downtown. The rooms were clean, the staff nice, and the breakfests good. There is nothing I can say bad about the place. The rooms were cleaned early each day. There was daily linen service, which is not the norm in Israel. Its not the King David, but you are not paying King David rates. For the money, you can't get a better value. I would stay there again, which in my mind, is the highest recommendation you can give a hotel.

The Eldan is located near the Jaffa Gate of
Jerusalem's Old City, near the King David hotel and
across the street from the YMCA tower. Our room was
on the corner of the second floor facing the street
but was still quiet. We booked in advance and asked
for a queen or king size bed but when we arrived
all they had were two twins side by side. The beds and
rooms are clean and comfortable with good blackout
curtains. The bathroom door was badly hung so it swung
all the way open unless very firmly latched - the
sliding closet door stayed open too. The in-room
internet service only worked the last day we were there
but it worked well once available. Breakfast comes with
the room and the food is varied and plentiful. We only ate
dinner at the Pisces restaurant once - it was expensive and
not very good. We arrived on a Friday and the Shabbat
elevator (an automatic elevator which operates according
to a preset program, not influenced by the passenger) took
some getting used to. The lobby is a gathering place for
friends and family so there is usually lots of conversation
and kids running around. The front desk staff were friendly
but were often too busy to help. The room rates were reasonable.
