The Dan Boutique hotel is far too big and impersonal to be considered as a boutique hotel.

The room was nice enough but the view of the Old City required a telescope.

The most disappointing aspect was the fact that staff were almost universally unfriendly, including waiting and bar staff. I do not think that we are particularly fussy travellers but the concept of "the customer is always right" does not appear to have reached the Dan Boutique.

Stopped by in Jerusalem for few days. Hotels there are very expensive and most of them not worth the money.
Dan boutique, despite its name, is a modest place with partly renovated rooms. In my room, while the room itself was fine (TV too small, large room, safe, fridge comfortable bed), the bathroom was old and badly maintained.
If you are looking for a simple hotel (no swimming pool) just for putting your head on a good pillow in a good room - it is a place for you. If you are looking for a boutique hotel - keep looking.

Free parking, WI-FI NOT FREE IN ROOMS!, breakfast - okay, not more, staff - okay, not more.

Room Tip: Look for the upgraded rooms. You can checkout late on Shabbats but this may require applying some p...

I arrived with my family and had two rooms reserved, we checked in and were told we had been upgraded to deluxe rooms - great we thought. Well we quickly learned that doesn't count for much if you're accustomed to Starwood or Marriott properties.

The Good,

Nice staff, including hotel manager - Boaz
Great location
Parking

The Just OK,

Breakfast, nice and good variety to choose from
Wireless access performance was ok

The Not So Good,

Cleanliness - doesn't exist, just seems like dirty is acceptable
Old dilapidated bathrooms - I've been in old and clean - this is not the case
Room couch, carpets, furniture - old, not clean, stained, dusty... .
Lobby furniture also dirty, grimy - not pleasant to sit in at all
Wireless Costs - kind of outrageous. They charge appx $20 per room & per device (not Just Dan Hotels though to be fair)

It's as if the cleaning staff has no leadership, no example of work ethic or pride in keeping a well maintained level of cleanliness. In my view it starts with the Dan Hotel chain not properly investing in things like carpeting (absolutely disgraceful), bathrooms and fixtures that are old and not functional.

Do not be fooled the other hotels in the $200 - $400 per night range in Jerusalem don't do much better. I decided to research it first hand and visited the Inbal Hotel, Leonardo Plaza and Dan Panorama in Jerusalem as well. I found very similar conditions in those properties as well.

Conclusion - you have the following options for Jerusalem hotels

* $100 - $200 per night range - affordable and likely poorly maintained
* $200 - $400 per night range - you'd expect clean and somewhat updated - dream on (this includes Dan Boutique, Dan Panorama, Inbal, Leonardo Plaza)
* $400 - $700 per night range - for that price you'd expect Ritz or St. Regis style accommodations and service. In Jerusalem it really means the King David, Mamilla Hotel or David Citadel - all of which don't come close to a Ritz or St. Regis in any category.

Next Trip - renting an apartment in Jerusalem, usually includes wireless, parking and clean.

Room Tip: Don't get one.

Dear Adam C,
Thank you for taking the time to post your thoughts, particularly the encouraging comments with regards to our team.

We're delighted you enjoyed the convenience of the hotel's location and made the most of the local area.
Throughout the hotel, and the chain as a whole, every effort is made to ensure the highest levels of quest experience at all times, so it is always a regret if a guest feels we have fallen short in any way. Whilst it may come a little late to rectify for you on this occasion, I can assure you your thorough and detailed comments with regards to cleanliness, maintenance and overall hotel experiences in general, have most definitely been taken on board for further attention and assurance of no reoccurrences of this nature; thank you for highlighting this to us.
It is with delight moreover, that our hotel team looked after you well so we'd hope to have another opportunity to welcome you back at some point in the future.
Best regards,

The room was spacious for a city hotel, though in need of an update. The room was clean, yet there was a stain on the carpets. The bed was a little on the hard side and the pillows were so/so, but this is what you expect when you are on a budget.
A refridgerator in the room worked well and was quiet (I often have to unplug them at night because of excessive noise, but not this one). The room a/c also worked well and was a clean white noise, not loud or rattling.
There is a convenient mini mart 5 minutes away open 24/7. A good walk to some restaurants and about 20 minute (up/down hills) to the Old City and Jaffa Gate. We traveled with an elderly person, so we had to cab it most places.
The shower pressure was really good and water temperatures were good. I had broken nightable lamp that I told the cleaning person about. He said he would report it, but it never got fixed.
Most of the desk staff were friendly, pleasant and helpful and the breakfast buffet staff very friendly and attentive.
Decent quality breakfast buffett with lots to choose from, and a variety each day. It was enough to tide us over until dinner. It was very hard to find a place to eat dinner on Shabbat, had to take a taxi.
Did not like being so dependent on taxis. They dont' seem well regulated. Some use meter, some dont' We had to jump out of one who refused to put on the meter and quoted what we knew to be an outrageous price. Iff the hotel calls one for you, they add 5 shekels to the meter. One desk clerk had them waive that for us. The next day, a different clerk told us he could not do that.
Overall it was a very pleasant stay, though would probably try to save up for something more upscale next time.

Room Tip: remember to turn on the do not disturb light if you are sleeping past 7am. They come early to clean

We stayed 4 nights at the Dan Boutique in Jerusalem and were pleased with its convenience, location and amenities. The Dan hotels are known for being a good facility and this smaller one lived up to their reputation. The rooms were spacious, the bed comfortable and the bathrooms well equipped. Many things were within walking distance including the Old City, bus lines, and the renovated old train station converted to shops and restaurants. We would stay there again.

Sorry don't know if there was a swimming pool or spa, disregard the rating
