I spent 5 nights in this YMCA. It was my second stay there, the first one was 15 years ago. At that time I had really appreciated being there. This time, I felt relieved when I left. The situation and the building are great. The rooms are not at all. Except for the sheets and towels which were clean, everything was dirty: dirty walls, dirty carpet covered with stains. Dust everywhere, specially on the textile head of the bed. The bathroom was not cleaned in an efficient way. It took me 3 days before obtaining that they vacuum cleaned the room! The reception staff was correct, but the restaurant staff was terrible, mainly the boys who stare at you without a word when you enter. Since I drink several cups of tea during my breakfast, I asked for a pot of hot water in order to avoid going each time to the hot water machine for refilling my cup. Impossible to obtain! Some cups and glasses were not clean. It is a pity such a place has lost his attractive charm because of such a lack of maintenance and training/control of the staff.

Don't be fooled by the name YMCA, this is most definitely not a youth hostel and is in fact an iconic hotel right in the centre of Jerusalem just a ten minute walk away from the Old City. The building itself is worth visiting as a tourist and the tower offers superb views of the city. The rooms were comfortable and the buffet breakfast was excellent.

stayed here for two nights. The building has a great old look about it, with décor to match in the lobby area. The staff were quite friendly, breakfast was ok & the onsite café was quite good. The view from the tower is also quite amazing. Unfortunately that is where the good stuff stops. Even though it's a YMCA the place is not very cheap to stay at & the room quality is quite bad. The beds are tiny single old beds that sag in the middle & quite uncomfortable. The bathroom was ok.

The YMCA, and especially concierge Rabie, were terrific. This is NOT an American-style "Y" but rather beautiful architecture, full service hotel that offers great value and location. Take the elevator to the top of the tower for 360 degree view of Jerusalem. My only complaint is that the bathroom sometimes had a vague smell of urine despite management's immediately, twice dispatching housekeeping. Otherwise room had a decent view, wifi, refrigerator, phone, good shower and comfortable beds. Restaurant is also very good and the included Israeli breakfast and fresh rolls were fantastic.

Again, Rabie couldn't have been more pleasant or helpful, arranging rides to Tel Aviv or the airport (Mike was careful, courteous, on-time driver), advising restaurants, making sure I had a box breakfast for an early departure, correcting an error on the bill, etc., etc.

I look forward to staying here again.

Relax on the terrace of the YMCA after a long, hot, noisy day walking the Old City, sitting in the shade, sipping a cool drink and wiping your plate clean of delicious hummus with a piece of pita bread whilst the water from the fountain bubbles next to you. There are certain, rare places in the world that emanate peace and tranquility and thankfully the YMCA is one of them.

If you want to do all of the following within 10 minutes walk - stroll along Jaffa St, drink coffee on Ben-Yehuda, walk to the Old City Jaffa Gate, have a nightcap at bohemian Emek Refaim (German Colony), go jogging at the Old Railway Station, shop at Mamilla - then you you’ll like the YMCA.
The rooms are shabby but clean. The hotel staff are erratic but helpful. The restaurant staff are friendly but not fawning. The breakfast is good, especially the freshly made omelets. Yes, the lift is too small – but what about using the stairs? Oh, you get free gym, fitness classes and swimming, secure parking and Wi-Fi (sometimes patchy during the evening) and you get what might be one of the best views of Jerusalem from the top of the observation tower.

If you are prepared to put up with the quirks to stay in a beautiful building that has a rich heritage and authenticity then you will love the YMCA Three Arches Hotel – I do.
