This was our second time in the American Colony and we loved it just as much as the first (and then some!). This small boutique hotel is a true jewel, it's patio beautiful and relaxing, the pool pleasant and cool, the service superb (thank u Diana!) - and the rooms - wow! Don't miss the amazing small gardens behind the new section. It's not cheap, true - but if your are the boutique hotel type, and want to see this beautiful part of Jerusalem (east) - reserve now! And if you're staying somewhere else - come to have lunch or drinks in the patio... We actually hardly left the hotel (we know Jerusalem well as Israelis) and just enjoyed a perfect summer city vacation.

I've been in this Hotel for five days at the end of August-beginning of September 2010.
The Hotel is no doubt fascinating and stylish, with a clear personality.
The History, the location and the environment tell us that we are talking about a first class Hotel, the place to be in Jerusalem.
Nevertheless I think that the basic rooms still need to be improved and refurbished,if the Hotel wants to keep his top ranking in Jerusalem Hotels
I was a little bit disappointed about the room, but then decided to stay because the environment is so nice.
The staff was very kind and also this convinced me to stay.
Food is excellent, services very good (including guided tours ) and the courtyards are absolutely fantastic.
The hotel is locate very close to the Old City (Damascus Gate), ideal for visiting Jerusalem.
The swimming pool is nice and so is the sauna.
WI FI for free, which is very good!
All in all I recommend this Hotel but I urge the Owners to take in consideration the refurbishment of the basic rooms.

Dear Mr Arciero,

Thank you for your review of our hotel and the positive comments you made regarding the hotels ambience, environment and service.

With regards to your room, we know that it was located in our Palm House annexe and we are pleased to be able to report that this whole building is due to be completely renovated starting this October. All the prices of the rooms in this section of the hotel are currently discounted by two categories due to the upcoming renovation.

When the renovations begin, this building will be closed. This is a separate building and will have no effect on the rest of the hotel with no noise, dirt or disturbance to our Guests.

We look forward to welcoming you back to our hotel in the near future, and especially to our new Palm House once the renovations are complete.

Yours sincerely,

Paolo Fetz

But I would not say a five star but then no hotel In Jerusalem let alone Israel is from my experience. It is expensive though and I was annoyed that a 10 dollar bottle of Israeli wine cost me 75 dollars, I understand a markup but that is ridiculous. In the King David they charged only 25 dollars. I know I checked.

I stayed at the American Colony Hotel for three days while on a business trip in Jerusalem. Having stayed previously in several of the large tourist group hotels, I have to say that the American Colony was a breath of fresh air. Our rooms were lovely, with excellent air con, the staff was helpful and friendly, and the pool and gardens were a beautiful and welcome relief from the daytime temps of 35++. We were fortunate to get a reasonable room rate this time and, assuming we can get a good rate, we'll most definitely return on our next visit to jeruslalem.

Perfectly placed for easy access to all the tourist sites. The American Colony is steeped in history, overwhelmed with first class service and undeniably perfect.

Had an amazing 3 night stay. The beyond polite receptionist offered us a room upgrade for a 50% discount. It was tempting but we decided to stick and see what type of room we had reserved. We weren't disappointed. The junior suite was fabulous, big enough to hold a dance in, and with a good size balcony. Then everything just got better.........hotel facilities were first class, staff perfectly trained and more than helpful.

I've stayed at several top hotels in Jerusalem but this was definately the best.

Hi - after reading all the great reviews on Trip Advisor, we were very excited to stay at the American Colony. A lot of character and atmosphere. The food was excellent and the service was good, although a bit slow. Then again, we have not had prompt service anywhere in the Middle East!

However, the rooms are small and the bathroom is very ordinary. The hotel has plenty of history. If you are looking for all the modern comforts, this may not be worth the price.

I will admit that we did not stay here but we came on a few occassions just to sit in the beautiful gardens and enjoy cocktails. The grounds are simply beautiful and the cocktail prices are similar to what you would pay in a high class hotel in London.

The hotel is in the middle of nowhere......literally so going outside of the grounds in the evening will require a taxi. We stayed close to Damascus Gate simply for the convenience of getting around and it''s proximity to the Old City.

The bookshop is beautiful ( I love bookstores) but you can buy the books cheaper on Amazon.
