Stayed here for a trip to Jerusalem, not ideally situated to walk into city at night unlike previous hotels ive stayed. One half of hotel seems to have been done up but the half I stayed hadn't been. On Sabbath the hotel rooms don't get cleaned/ sorted, the lift runs on Shabbat service automatically going from one floor to another. the food is plentiful and tasty Kosher menu. Wi-Fi in reception and bar area. One day swimming pool appeared to not be working. Staff very helpful and pleasant. lack of bellboys on last morning to assist group to depart was disappointing.

We stayed for a night in August taking 2 adjoining rooms booked last minute.

The good points are the pool(s) which were great for kids and had a lovely view of the surrounding hills. It was a little busy but we stayed peak season in August so not unexpected. The rooms were good, not huge but clean and well appointed.

Food was OK - not up to the Isrotel type standard but you get what you pay for! Staff were friendly and accomodating so overall I would really give this 3.5 points and would not hesitate to recommend.

Common areas are starting to look dated and could do with a re-fresh but overall OK.

We spent 3 night in the hotel with our 2 daughter during August.
The hotel was booked out, but still there was no feeling of being too crowded.
The rooms are very clean, pleasant and well-equipped. The staff is highly professional - we got an excellent and quick service. All we asked for was answered quickly and professionally.
Breakfast was rich and tasty. The swimming pool is great.
The hotel is greatly located - only 15 minutes from the old city, 5 minutes from Talpiot area and 10 from Emeq Refa'im.
Bottom line - great value for money, a great place for families. Deinately a place we will come back to

Room Tip: Take a room in floor 1 and ask for a garden access room

I had the unfortunate opportunity (work had a contract) to repeatedly stay at the Ramat Rachel over the course of a year (2012-2013)... here is what I have a problem with:

1) The hotel isn't clean. Maybe because I stayed there so much and saw everything from cockroaches in the restaurant, employees putting food that fell on the floor back to be served to lien and towels that weren't clean. They do a good surface cleaning but when you look really hard, it is not a clean hotel.

2) The restaurant: Besides seeing cockroaches every time I stepped into the restaurant to have breakfast..and seeing employees pick up food and utensils that were on the floor back to be used/eaten (at least once a week).. This is a super big stop for tourists. Therefore the place is PACKED to the gills for Lunch just about every day. Also, since they are kosher.. the food all day Saturday is reheated and sometime inedible.

3) Location. Yes it is close to Bethlehem and on a hill but not close to the city center at all what so ever. Also there are weddings at the hotel Sunday to Thursday night. Every night.. and no I am not kidding. So you are dealing with loud music and tons of guests. Also.. there is a mosque not too far down the road.. so if you leave your windows open you will be woken up bright and early by the call to prayer.

4) There is an attached sports center; the pool is included in your stay but not the gym. It is a VERY popular place for families... so there are tons of kids running a muck (and I really do mean that... parents here let there kids do just about whatever they want).

5) The rooms are ok... larger then I expected.. and all the rooms have LCD TVs on the walls. WiFi is only free in the lobby.. so you will be done there with literally 100 of your closest friends in the evening all trying to use the same internet.

I would compare this to a Super 8 hotel in the U.S.... I really don't know how this place gets such great reviews.... I don't care if I have to pay money out of pocket; the next time work sends me here, I refuse to stay in this hotel.

We have led Pilgrim Groups to Israel every 18 months since 2005. During the early years, we stayed nearer to the Old City but came here for lunch on two occasions and enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. In latter years we have stayed here with our groups for our 4 nights in Jerusalem, and in 2014 we are booked to stay here for a fourth time. It is a Kosher kibbutz hotel, and as a consequence we expect the keeping of Sabbath, which means rooms are not serviced that day. It is great to see a community keeping to their beliefs. Out of all the hotels we have stayed in in Jerusalem with our groups this is the only one to which we have continued to return. We always receive a warm welcome, staff are always helpful and the refurbished rooms are good quality. I have only used the pool once, when it was covered, but it was a nice size for a relaxing swim after a long day. The grounds are great and the history amazing. I unreservedly recommend this to Tour Leaders and others who want to visit Jerusalem.

Room Tip: Ask for the refurbished rooms (refurbished in 2010/11)
