Located right near the Old City of Jerusalem, the huge Dan Jerusalem is part of the Dan Hotel chain and has a outdoor dining/drinks area with of nice view of Jerusalem. One can see the Temple Mount from there and the lobby area is very nice; free Wi Fi in the lounge that slows down if too many people are logging but it works good. Nice rooms, attentive service and good food make this a terrific place to stay when visiting this great historic city. I was staying with 700 people during Christian Pilgrimage and it was perfect for the needs of this massive group.

Room Tip: Get a view.

From time to time we revisit old favorites. This trip (only across town) to the Dan Jerusalem showed us glowingly why we enjoy the hospitality there. Originally built over twenty years ago as the crown jewel hotel in a world famous chain, much of the originally planned brilliance can still be experienced at the Dan Jerusalem. From reception flowing water falls level by level through and around the balconied stairway to the lower levels of the vast atrium.

Our room was warm, well decorated and comfortable. Sadly the changing ownership of the hotel of er the years shows in a certain amount of neglect, but again cleanliness, properly working electricity and plumbing allowed us to enjoy our stay.

Finally we ended our stay after breakfast. I enjoy breakfast. I very much enjoy a fresh, tasty, nicely displayed breakfast featuring fresh breads baked on the premises and varieties of salads each with its own remarkable flavor.

We enjoyed ourselves.

This is the primary hotel used by tour groups traveling to Jerusalem. I had booked an executive room with two beds since I was traveling with my adult daughter. Unfortunately, they had given away the rooms in that configuration and the hotel was completely full. We were moved to another room on the opposite side which had not been renovated and overlooked a noisy street.

As most of the other reviewers mention, only the rooms in east section of the hotel appear to have been renovated. That side is much quieter and overlooks East Jerusalem. While the other rooms in the hotel need renovation, it doesn't seem likely that that will occur since the hotel is always booked full by tour groups.

It is not that far from the tram stop which will take you to the old city and other spots in Jerusalem. If you are not fit, though, your best bet would be taxi. The crush of the tour groups can be a bit distracting. The tour buses all pull in at the same time and all leave at the same time, so it is very chaotic at those moments. Overall rating, only fair.

Room Tip: Insist on an executive room on the east side facing the valley.

This is one of the places to which I have sent many people, all of whom have thanked me. The hotel itself is a little far from the centre of town but the new Jerusalem light-train which is about a five minute walk away has solved part of that problem. There is a taxi station right outside the door but other public transport is a slight distance from the hotel. The balconies have a wonderful panoramic view of the old city. The food is excellent. The hotel has lately been refurbished. The hotel boasts an excellent spa with varied types of massage and treatments, a heated indoor pool, an outdoor pool in summer, Jakuzi, Turkish sauna, and health club. This is also a great place for private affairs or functions with its many halls, meeting rooms and lecture halls, all of varying sizes.

TIP:
*****
If you are staying over the weekend, remember that everything in the hotel and the whole surrounding area is closed from Friday afternoon till Saturday evening for religious reasons, so unless you have a rented car, this is something which should be taken into consideration.

The rooms were a little tired. But the lobby and food were great. Hold off on going your laundry. It's very expensive there! The staff were honestly hit and miss. Some outstanding, others not so much.

We stayed for 10 days, and the quality of the service in the dining room and lounge areas was consistently excellent. Nedal Ghoul, assistant F and B mgr, was obviously the driving force behind the quality service. Also worthy of mention were Rdaida and Nezar. They made an obvious effort to maintain a very high quality of service. A real pleasure.
