“Good For Us”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2011

We arrived with an extremely large group and had the the blessing of staying in a room overlooking the "old city". I had contacted the hotle before we left and requested it....so we were lucky. The room was a good size but by my standards could have been cleaner. (I'm a Marriott person). The bathroom was large and the only problem we had was water leaked from under the shower door so we had to keep a towel wedged in there. The bed was very comfortable and we had plenty of pillows. Others in our group had different complaints. Some had heat issues, some had no hot water pots to make coffee, not enough towels, and some had no windows! (I couldn't even imagine that!). I must say that the hotel did do an excellent job when it came to feeding us all at the same time and the food and desserts were excellent. They only serve coffee at breakfast but should learn that Americans like coffee with their dinner as well. I found the front desk to be overwhelmed at times and short tempered...but also saw other guests treat them rudely which was not necessary. The hotel is in a good location if you're on a tour or want to take a taxi. I wouldn't walk too far....things are farther away than they look. All in all...I would recommend this hotel if you can get a room on the upper floors. For myself I think I would want to stay closer to the "old city" next time so we can do mor exploring during free time.

Dear Guest of the Dan Jerusalem,
Thank you for your detailed feedback and most favorable evaluation of our food and beverage and dining services.
We have also noted your criticism of some maintenance and housekeeping service aspects and these issues will be thoroughly examined.
I would like to take this opportunity to clarify that all our hotel rooms have a brand new coffee corner, including a kettle and coffee and tea making facilities.
You mentioned a lack of windows, please be assured that all our hotel rooms have windows that open; some enjoy a spectacular view of the old city and some of the hotel's lavish gardens and grounds.
As I am sure you are aware, the Dan Jerusalem is the newest member of the Dan hotel chain, and is currently undergoing extensive renovations and improvements. I would be delighted to welcome you back to the Dan Jerusalem to witness these transformations at first hand.
Kind regards,
The Management

Just got back from a spa weekend at the Dan with a few girlfriends. We stayed in one of the suits on the top floor with a great view of the Old City. We loved the spa! We can't wait to go back!

This hotel is great- clean, great indoor pool, great service. The breakfast is unbelievable. Especially good is the concierge, Eyal, who was friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable.

My fiance and I stayed at the Dan Jerusalem for five days when we visited Israel last summer and it was a wonderful experience. The rooms were large, clean, and comfortable and we were impressed by the hotel's facilities: the breakfast buffet was absolutely delicious with an array of fresh fruits and vegetable, hot entrees, an omelette station, and a plethora of Israeli treats. We loved the gym -- a lots of machines, high quality machines, tons of TVs -- nicest one we had on our 23-day trek through the middle east. The pool area was expansive and lovely, a perfect afternoon retreat. Location was great too: we had a view of Dome of the Rock from our balcony and the hotel offers gratis shuttles to downtown (Ben Yehuda) regularly throughout the day.

Stayed here on the recommendation of a fellow journalist. The hotel is ideally placed for the city center, dead sea and Bethlehem. The food was the best I have seen in all of Israel and the Mideast and the gym was the first one in Israel that stands up to US standards. A great hotel for professionals and business clientele.

I was tour leader for a group of 17 from the US. From our first greeting, being welcomed in the Executive Lounge, through checkout five days later, it was a wonderful experience! The variety and quality of the breakfast and dinner buffets were beyond our expectations. The rooms were comfortable and our needs were courteously met by the hotel staff. I will use this hotel as a highlight for our next tour. With the exception of the huge, pushy, one-night Shabbat crowd at the first evening's meal, it was a flawless experience. For the rest of the stay it was not crowded at all. Everyone in our group appreciated the quality and service. Continuing improvements are observable. Based on our stay, I recommend the Dan Jerusalem enthusiastically!

Unless you are on a huge tour this is not the place for you. The place is huge and advertises that it has an indoor pool. It does but it lets people who are members use it so you can never use the pool for laps. It was raining and my room had water pouring in the ceiling. On two occassions hotel workers walked into my room. I had to change rooms and the safe would not work so most of the time there were maintenance issues.
I asked the manger to email and he never did. The food in the dining room was terrible.
I have never seen a breakfast in the MIddle East with no juices. I called down for Ice and they said they did not have any. How can a hotel that large have no ice. Finally a guy from the kitchen shows up with a little aluminum containter with a little ice in it. They have just taken over this hotel but are not prepared to actually run it. It was embarassing
