“Great Cheap Hotel in the best part of Lerusalem!”
Reviewed March 17, 2014

Just returned from a week staying at the Mount of Olives Hotel in the Al Tor village overlooking the old city of Jerusalem. The room and en suite were both clean and well presented. Only downside - no mirror in the bathroom to shave! The staff went out of their way to be helpful. We phoned them before hand and thankfully they speak very good English. They organized a taxi to meet us at Tel Aviv Airport as our flight arrived fairly late. We weren't ripped off and the taxi driver was friendly. If you're thinking about eating breakfast at this hotel, DO IT! It was the finest breakfast I've ever had, complete with (apparently) the best hummus in Jerusalem. Al Tor is a bustling Muslim village. It can be very noisy (which we didn't mind) but it is completely safe. Beware of the 'call to prayer' from the mosque next door at 4.30am each day. After the first couple of days we just slept through it!
Overall, great hotel in a fantastic area of Jerusalem. I would definitely recommend!

We traveled to the hotel at 6 am even check in supposed to be at 12 we got the room about 8 am and complimentary breakfast that day. The service was incredible nice and helpful. Room was small, but clean. Close to olive garden with great Jerusalem view. Hotel is in Arabic neighborhood, however very safe even at night.

We stay at Mount of olives hotel for a week. The room is simply, but clean, with bathroom, air conditioned, free wi-fi.
We think it is a good choice because:
-the price is very good (43 euros/night)
-the breakfast is included in price and is very ok
-the wonderfull panorama is the best of Jerusalem
-is very close of the Old City (15 minutes walking)
-the shops in the area are opened even the fridays afternoons and the saturdays (when the shops in the Jewish quartier are closed)
-the staff is very friendly and helpful; they considered us like guests and not only clients
-for only aprox.10 euros per person (50NIS) we served a dinner composed of soup, salad, meal with meat, sweets, bread and water ( big portions, very well cooked and with free supplement when we asked)
-there is a bus ( line 75, price 5 NIS the journey) between the hotel and the Damascus Gate. an entrance in the Old City, for those who do not want to walk.

The hotel is far from the old city, to get back there you need a taxi, so add it to the price!
Couple of things :
1. First night: bad sheets were dirty of blood. Told the receptionist, he said to me "I'll make it change tomorrow". I am still waiting... In one week sheets were never changed! Have to say the receptionist was friendly, I believe that cleaner were just happy not doing their job!
2. Nesher Sherut doesn't go there. You better don't ask why (I learned it t in he hard way).
3. They simply do not clean the room, you better know it.
4. The staff is quite friendly. The chef is good, its hummus is one of the best in the city, just like its falafel. The breakfast is very good. But... the price of the dinner (100 ILS) is too high.
At the end of it all: the worst ting is the cleaning, because of its lack!

We have spent 5 nights in this hotel during the holiday season. It was a good choice for this price, the location is very good (bus 75 to the Damascus Gate, 5NIS ticket, or a nice walk to the Lion's Gate along the olive garden, the neighbourhood didn't make a great first impression, but the people turned out to be friendly) and we liked the breakfast. The room was comfortable, there was a safe and free wi-fi. However, the bathroom was dilapidated (but relatively clean) and there was a dog outside barking almost every night. The call for prayer from the nearby mosque didn't disturb us much. The breakfast starts at 6:30 which was a bit late for us, but there was a coffee place nearby which was open before 6am. Overall, it's a good place for a budget trip to Jerusalem.

La mejor vista de Jerusalén, el personal de servicio sumamente amables, excelente comida. El hotel es un poco viejo, pero se compensa con la atención que se recibe.
The best view of Jerusalem, the staff very kindness, a lot of great food, quite old but does not matter for the kindness and supperb location.

Room Tip: Solicitar vista a la ciudad.

Friendly service. For a 2.5 star hotel we got what we paid for. Rooms were a good size and comfortable new beds and linen. They were basic but that is what I expected but they were clean. We spent hardly anytime there so we were not worried the too served a purpose. It was great as right by the Church of the holy ascension and they you could work your way down from the Mount of Olives to see the main sights in the old city. Some females may be intimidated by the local neighbour as it is an Islamic neighbourhood with mainly men on the streets but we as 2 females felt fine and people were very courteous and friendly towards us. For the price we paid a night $60 approx inc of breakfast it was good value. The dinner you can get a 3 course home cooked (has to be requested that morning) is very good value for $15 pp and the breakfast buffet is typical of a breakfast in the Middle East which we loved as lots of choice and healthy options. Great service the staff were friendly and helpful. I would most definitely stay there again . The only one down side is it may be a little noisy for some if you get a room on the same side of the main road and there is a mosque right next door but the call for prayer at 5am is very short and did not really disturb us.

Room Tip: I guess if you don't sleep well ask for a room not on the main road (that is if they have such a...
