King Solomon Hotel

We have stayed at the King Solomon every time we've been to Israel (about 8 times since 2001), and it has improved. Now there is Wifi throughout the hotel, and the reception desk personal are much more personable. Also WIlliam, the wonderful piano player, is still there and delights and soothes the soul with his wonderful renditions. The hotel has not been updated in quite awhile, but that's ok - the outside breakfast room is very nice, and the dining room personnel can be quite friendly if you take the time to talk with them, and get to know them. Shabbat dinner is always abundant and tasty, while breakfast is mostly the same, but very adequate and delicious. The rooms were good sized, and the bed was very comfortable. There is a safe in the closet, and a coffeemaker in the room. The view from our room this last time was not good, so ask for a nice view (don't know if that costs more or not).

Room Tip: ask for a room with nice view.

Not a cheap choice so a disappointment overall. Free wifi was good and the room was a good size. Fridge not ver effective. Two bottles of water provided. The bar is poorly staffed and one night we gave up waiting to be served after 20 mins despite the concierge saying the waiter had been told to attend. Advice about which sites were open on Shabbat was inaccurate and wasted us time waking long distance to the Temple Mount only to find it shut. Breakfast is typical Israeli, though the waitress is over- enthusiastic and takes away your plates when you have barely finished or not! The pool was shut which was a shame. Despite visiting in November it was very hot and we would have appreciated a dip. The cleaner tried to do the room at 8.00 and I had all on to stop her going into the bathroom where my husband was showering. Over all it just misses.

The last time we stayed at the King Solomon was nearly 30 years ago and since that time we had continued to hear about "nice location, decent rooms but awful service." Due to a change of plans and needing a room in Jerusalem at the last minute, we walked into the King Solomon and offered a room at a rate cheaper than all of the Dan hotels in the city, including the Dan Boutique and Dan Panorama which are 4 stars. We were pleasantly surprised to find the room large, spotless and overlookling the Old City and the Montefiore windmill beneath us.,Wi fi was free throughout the entire hotel. Check in by the same person with whom we had made our reservation was quick, efficient and very friendly. We were sorry to have believed everything we had heard about the King Solomon over the years, but based on our experience they are getting a bum rap. We would defintely return.

I feel, although I have reviewed this hotel last April; that I should respond again to all those who feel the hotel is good, and the food is good. This is just not so! We are tour group leaders, and will NEVER subject our groups again to this hotel. The food is perhaps barely passable, if you only stay for one evening. If you are there for 6 nights as we were, then it becomes bad. Several of our group commented that the food at times, tasted as it had been recycled, - the hot food was barely warm, the salads unimaginative, - choices poor and extremely repetitive. We had stayed twice in Dan Panorama, and their Dining Room is superb. In 6 days we constantly had to chase down the waiters to get dishes and cutlery for the table, to try if possible to get hot drinks at breakfast. We had stayed a few years back at this hotel, and at that time, coffee thermos' were placed on the tables. This time around, we were fortunate if we were able to get coffee brought to the tables. It became very frustrating for our group, and they too expressed to us their dis-satisfaction with the hotel and the service. We did not have an issue with the large rooms, and for the most part, they were reasonably clean, but as a group, we were only in the room to sleep at night. Therefore the food was a major factor for us in not returning. Another issue was that although our group did not drink alcohol, we could not find anyone at the bar area, if someone wished to purchase a soda, or cold drink of juice etc. We had to go to the front desk, and they called for someone to come. Usually one of the Dining Room managers eventually appeared. We met with other group members who did drink alcohol, and they too expressed their frustration at the lack of service at the bar area. The hotel is over-priced even for the standards they have

Room Tip: Choose rooms that are larger - these are quite spacious.

I recently stayed at the King Solomon Hotel in Jerusalem for 8 nights as part of a tour. It was a great home base for that long of a stay. The room was spacious with excellent closet space. The bathroom was also sufficient.

Check in and check out went smooth. Housekeeping was good. Anything we called for was accomplished.

The breakfast had plenty of hot and cold choices.

The best thing about this hotel is the location. It is within walking distance to the Old City, Mamilla, Ben Yehuda Street, Machane Yehuda, etc. We got anywhere we needed to go by foot! If we were tired, the taxis were affordable and plentiful.

We enjoyed eating at Cup of Joe across the street---great ice coffee and yummy toast sandwiches (like grilled cheese with different options). The pizza place across the street also was worth checking out---fresh pizza, fresh handmade pasta, cooked to order.

I would recommend this hotel for having a great location in Jerusalem.

I stayed here for 9 days with a JWRP trip. The room was nice, housekeeping was great, the hairdryer in the bathroom was more than adequate, and the breakfast was excellent. The hotel provides an orthodox experience if you want it--kosher food, shabbat meals, and a shabbat elevator. But things don't shut down for Shabbat--the regular elevators still run, and the dining room is open. The staff were good. No exercise room, and the pool has limited hours. Never saw the shops in the hotel open all the time I was there. Enjoyable stay.

A comfortable hotel just a short walk to the Old City, the new Mamila mall and other sites of interest. We walked to Ben Yehuda and the the Mahane Yehuda market as well. Pleasant staff, great Israeli breakfast daily and good housekeeping. Plentiful amenities, flat screen TV, hair dryer and hand-held shower made the stay pleasant. The pool looked inviting although we didn't have time to swim. Glatt kosher facility with Shabbat elevator!
