“Front Desk Manager Munir Salman gave outstanding service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2012

Munir Salman the front desk manager went out of his way to make me feel comfortable during my stay at the David Citadel hotel. he always was attentive to my needs and made sure that whatever I need would get done immediately. the hotel was always ready to help when I needed it and would always make sure to bring the towels and water when. The executive lounge is also a great plus and well worth the pay. I had at least 2 meals their a day and held several meetings. The food was excellent. All of my desires were met and it was an excellent stay overall.

Only the very bext vacation experience from the David Citadel. We arrived early, and the gave us the very first available room. It had a lovely view of the old city down to the Jaffa gate. The splendid concierge Daniel arranged all taxis for us, which meant we got non-exploitive drivers (beware! Jerusalem taxi drivers are perfectly capable of ripping you off - only take your concierge's recommendation if you want to avoid this). On the last day our flight was VERY late (11 p.m.) but the hotel let us have the room until 6.30 - no charge! WE also strolled up to the King David Hotel which is sombre, dark, and somewhat forbidding. The Citadel is suave, elegant and beautifully lit. The staff were helpful BEYOND compare. The hotel is also superbly placed - a few steps away is the Mamilla acade, and a gentle stroll down that is the old city and the Jaffa gate.

A great experience.

My husband wanted to surprise me for our 5th anniversary and he chose to take a suite in a five star "American standard" hotel in Jerusalem. He booked the reservation online for a suite for 2 nights. When we arrived at the hotel, we asked to use the business lounge since it reads on our printed reservation that all guests staying in a suite are able to use the business lounge free of charge at anytime during the stay. The front desk employee (Chanoch) told us that we actually would only receive what they call a “mini suite”, and that this feature is not included in a "mini suite" room. He said that the cost would be an additional 230 Shekels per day. We showed him the reservation receipt which clearly showed that the room we reserved was a Suite and NOWHERE was a mini suite mentioned. Chanoch understood us and said that "we have a point" but there is nothing he can do since he is not in a position to change their rules. We asked to speak with the supervisor and were told that Manuel, the manager is busy now and he would look into it and be in touch with us shortly. Manuel never had the courtesy of contacting us so we went to the front desk and spoke with Chanoch who said, “oh, Manuel never called you"? He said that Manuel decided not to honor what is listed on your reservation receipt. This hotel tries to portray itself as a hotel with high American like standards, but honestly DOES NOT COME CLOSE! They treat their guests with a lack of respect and offer less than suitable rooms for very high prices. We paid over $1000.00 for a two night stay and expected better service than we got. My husband and i were supposed to celebrate some very special moments, and instead we found ourselves spending much of our time chasing after the stuff of the hotel to help us settle in.
There are many hotels in Jerusalem with 5 star ratings to choose from. I would recommend Staying Away from the David Citadel and finding another hotel with higher standards that will probably cost you the same price or less!

Room Tip: Stay Away From This Hotel!

The location is superb and in easy walking distance to the old city. The rooms are modern spacious and befitting a five star hotel.
Alas the service is nonexistent and you should prepare yourself for a battle whenever you need to interact with the staff. Personal examples are:
1. On checking I negotiated a 50% reduction in Internet rates. On check out nobody knew about this.
2. You take your eye off your plate in the dining room and before you know it, your plate is gone, almost as if they are begging you to get the hell out.we got up for desserts and our almost full bottle of wine, soft drinks and plates disappeared into thin air.the F and B manager promised to credit the wine off the bill and surely enough on check out there was no record of this and a battle ensued with the reception looking at me as if I am trying to " score" a free bottle of wine when I am staying in two junior suites
3. The do not disturb sign is electronic.as an observant Jew I cannot switch it on on the sabbath,so sure enough at 8:00am in the morning you are woken up by screams and knocks of " housekeeping" at your door.

The list is endless.....

Great location close to the Old City, Jaffa Rd. restaurants and nightlife. Friendly staff, sparkling clean, comfortable beds, sumptuous breakfast buffet. Our only gripe was being herded to a different location each day for breakfast. We were there during the holidays and apparently the hotel was full so they opened an additional location on the 2nd floor which was very chaotic and didn't include the same choices as on the regular floor. Otherwise, it was a great stay and we would definitely consider returning.
