The Alcazar is an old hotel, and could use some upgrading. But it is very clean. The location is pretty good, about 3/4 mile from the closest point to the Old City, in an area called Wadi Al-Joz. Mainly, the staff is so friendly, always trying to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as they can. They really go that extra mile for you, and they are very sincere. They treat you as if you were a guest in their home, and you get a taste of good old Arab hospitality.

This is a hotel that seeks to offer clean rooms, a good breakfast of fresh food and a smile on the face of those serving it, plus unlimited supplies of tea and coffee all day long. Also, along the way, you are likely to be provided with a bowl of fruit in the evening or a dish of ice cream or a plate of biscuits.
Its informal and homely atmosphere is reflected in the rooms - so don't expect glossy modernity - but the welcome surpasses that offered by any of the glitzy chains.
Its location in the Palestinian quarter, a short walk from the old city, provides great views over the varying parts of the city.

This hotel is very friendly and very good value for money. It is very well situated just 10 minutes from St Stephen's (Lion's) gate to the Old city. Being a lone female traveller I felt very safe there and in the surrounding area. I asked directions a few times and people were always ready to help me. Complimentary water and tea is great too. I would definitely stay there if I get a chance to go to Jerusalem again.

Very basic hotel. Staff are helpful and friendly. But... the place is very run down. Rooms very basic and in need of repair lots of carpet tacks in the floor which kept snagging our feet, broken shower very badly stained towels.

I did not feel safe in the locality of the hotel as a western woman and that was acompanied by two men.

It's intresting to see East Jerusalem but I wouldn't recommend staying there. Location is too far from resturants so you end up having to get loads of taxis everywhere.

For budget acommodation I think there are a lot better options out there.

Also there is a minaret very close to the hotel so be prepared for an early wake up call if you choose to stay here.

When I got into this hotel, Mr. Nader Yunes picked me up from the American Colony for free.

He and the rest of the staff is very friendly, helpful and always willing to help!

The rooms are very comfortable, clean and nice and you have a good view to the oil mountain.

The breakfast is perfect!

I'll come back here, that's for sure!

This 'hotel' is as the photographs from a previous reviewer showed - a hostel effectively and nothing more. It is NOT a 4 star hotel at a 1 star price - you are getting exactly what you pay for and NOTHING more.

I stayed at Alcazar Hotel for four nights in early July this summer (apologies for the lateness of this review!). Alcazar was in fact chosen for me by ToursInEnglish.com, an alternative touring company. They first suggested a more expensive hotel, but I am very happy to have stayed at Alcazar not only because of the rate but also because of the friendliness of its staff!! Their mint tea was also memorable.
The hotel only provides breakfast but you can order nice Arabic meals to be delivered to the reception, which was very convenient for someone travelling on her own.
I also had a nice view from my room. It was on the 4th floor and a cool breeze would blow in the evening, which almost made me forget that it was actually a summer.
And the fact that the hotel is located in a non-tourist area gave me an opportunity, albeit small, to see how 'normal' people in East Jerusalem might live. They were very nice too: on my first walk back from the Old City, I missed the road on the left where Alcazar is, and the neighbours started to shout 'Alcazar left, Alcazar left' :-D I wished I'd been able to speak more Arabic.
I will stay at Alcazar if I manage to visit Jerusalem again!
