“Jerusalem Gold Hotel, 234 Jaffe Street, Jerusalem, Israel”
Reviewed June 29, 2012

If you are looking for a clean hotel, with extremely comfortable beds and excellent food, the Jerusalem Gold Hotel is the place. It is centrally located next to the central bus station and directly across from the new Jerusalem Light Train. All of Israel is easily accessible from this hotel. It's located in a very safe neighborhood at the entrance to Jerusalem. Close to shopping and outstanding medical care. What makes this hotel especially pleasant, is the owner of the hotel takes a personal interest in all of her guests. Staying in her hotel is like being a guest in her home.

Room Tip: I prefer to be on the upper floors for no particular reason other than I believe it might be quieter...

Also for my group this was the first hotel that we arrived at on our pilgrimage to The Holy Land. We were a group of 50 people and our group leader informed us that Israel hotels are expensive and this one is not a very new one. We were told that the hotel is very conveniently located and within walking distance of Old Jerasalem. But we tried one evening to get to the Old Town and got scared as the houses around the hotel looked inhabited and the streets were empty.

The room size was just right - with two single beds pushed together, but fine for the reason we were there...not to hang out at hotel but to explore the city. AC functioned ok in my room, but I heard that other members of our group had trouble with the toilets. We also had some issues with the towels one day (they did not provide us the entire pack per person). No WiFi, and a very old TV set in the room. No fridge also (and this was an issue, as cold water is really needed the June heat.

Nice lounge and bar area...comfy and social place to hang.

Food was buffet style and good but pretty much the same each of the four days we were there. Lots of salads. Dining room chairs and tables need cleaning; almost all napkins at our tables looked old and badly washed (it was better in the morning, when paper napkins were provided instead).

The hotel is located at major bus terminal so lots of action and noise - beware of the huge night traffic! Would not stay here again if there was a choice.

I recently visited Israel and stayed at the Jerusalem Gold Hotel. It is very centrally located situated next to the central bus station and just a two minute walk to take the train to the old city. Only a 5-10 minute ride puts you in the heart Old Jerusalem.
The staff was extremely accomodating and gracious. Very clean and quite adequate.
The owner was always available and accessible greeting her guests as they came into the hotel.
I highly recommend this hotel while you visiting the Holy Land.
Food is excellent with a large variety of fresh fruit, salads, olives, dates, cheeses. Wonderful.

Room Tip: •"Rooms on the south side are quieter" •"Corner suites are large and sunny"...

Fantastic location, next to the bus station and right by a tram stop for a 5 minute ride downtown towards Jaffa and the Old City or a pleasant half hour walk. Quiet, efficient glazing and soundproofing. Friendly helpful staff, who agreed to my late checkout request (or they can hold bags). Nice little bar and plenty of choice at breakfast.

First hotel that we arrived at on our pilgrimage to The Holy Land that the owner of the hotel actually came out and welcomed us and then spoke with us about her hotel. Nice touch! We were a group of 21 from USA. Owner reminded us that "Americans are spoiled" and to remember this was a city hotel. Hotel caters to tour groups and be sure to use the elevators before a large group arrives or departs and jams the elevators. Very conveniently located and within walking distance of Old Jerasalem. Smaller room with two single beds pushed together. Perfectly fine for reason we were there...not to hang out at hotel but to explore the city.
Nice lounge and bar area...comfy and social place to hang.

Despite the high 70's weather, no air conditioning and we were told that the air doesn't get turned on until May. Hmmmm?

No WiFi either although for the four days we were staying there we were told they were "working on it and it should be working shortly."

Food was buffet style and good but pretty much the same each of the four days we were there. Lots of salads. Dining room chairs need cleaning; almost all at our tables were stained.

VERY NICE ... owner presented each of us with a "Pilgrim Certificate" signed by the Minister of Tourism and the Major.

Located at major bus terminal so lots of action and noise but we enjoyed it. Would stay here again...didn't expect a five star hotel and the location was great.

Side note....on last day, I was sick and the owner personally sent up to room bananas and white room (a huge bowl) to ensure my stomach was settled before we flew out that evening. You wouldn't ever receive this service from a major chain hotel.

I suspect the previous reviewer (arabag) was in the same group as us and I do not seek to simply repeat other recent experiences. However there are a number of aspects of our stay at the Gold that may be useful to those contemplating staying here.

The overall impression I got from the staff at all levels here was that they are trying to please and develop their business particularly with northern Europe, but have a fundamental misunderstanding of the essential operating procedures and disciplines involved in running a city centre hotel, bearing in mind that there is an under supply of quality hotel rooms in Jerusalem.

So here goes.

On arrival the air con did not work. A chap came fairly quickly and fixed it, leaving dirty fingermarks over the control box in our room and on the wall. Light switches were dirty and bedside light switch was cracked. The tea/coffee making facilities consisted of two tired looking tea bags, two cardboard beakers, voluminous sachets of sugar but no milk or coffee. The base of the kettle was dirty. We asked for coffee & receptionist made a note but nothing done - he also said that they don't supply powdered or uht milk to rooms since milk has to be obtained from the restaurant. Two days later as a result of another client having a moan we were supplied with two sachets of coffee and another load of sugar. We passed on this facility.

Our room had an aged tv and damaged furniture. There was a free safe and fridge but insufficient hangers however there was plenty of drawer space. Bathroom was functional with toiletries but there was a rusting switch next to toilet and plumbing with a green mould.

Since the fridge only appeared to function for short periods I had occasion to pull out the unit to check it was plugged in. The rear of the unit was thick with dust. The window fitted badly but we were on a high floor so traffic noise was minimal. Bed was comfy with decent pillows.

Now some tips about food. Loads of salads but had to ask specially for mayonnaise. Milk was off so they replaced it with more milk - that was off. One of our group spotted some mouldy bread which was swiftly removed. Orange juice I suspect was watered down on one of our days. A carafe had glass chunks broken off at the top and some plates were cracked. Nobody was drinking wine at dinner I suspect because the cost was £22 per bottle. Hot food was not labelled for foreigners and was very poor. A small glass of wine in the bar was £4.31 but there is a supermarket 5 minutes away plus a host of little shops.

However we did survive all this pretty easily and the hotel is ideally situated for sightseeing. The ultra modern bridge outside is floodlight and ideal to practice your nightime photography.

Happy landings.

Room Tip: High floor - less noisy.
