Jerusalem Gold Hotel
Ranked #86 of 101 Hotels in Jerusalem
Reviewed April 23, 2012

The Jerusalem Gold is a lovely little boutique style hotel. If it were in the states I would give it a lower rating for lack of cleanliness, but it was clean enough. (If you didn't notice the carpet and expect your towels to be changed...) The rooms are on the smaller side, boutique style, but we had a two room suite and we had quite enough space.

What was nice about this hotel was the courtesy of the owner and the staff, and the food is wonderful! (Fresh!)The location is right at the bus station, the train stops across the street and a taxi stand is right there, too.

Room Tip: Ask for a 2 room suite to get a LITTLE more space!

We stayed here for over a week, small older type room, two single beds pushed together, in a very busy area near the Central bus station. Lots of construction going on . Breakfast buffet pretty good, bathroom kept fairly clean.

Room Tip: I am pretty sure most of the rooms were the same

My husband and I have been to Israel 14 times. The last year and a half we have stayed at the Jerusalem Gold (3 times) The service is wonderful, in fact we were late arriving for dinner and the hotel kept food warm for us and served us as soon as we arrived. This was wonderful as we volunteer and were quite hungry when we arrived. Whenever we were in need of any service it was provided. It is a wonderful place right next to the Central Bus station and train. There are also stores in walking distance in the event you forgot to bring something from home. The Old City can either be walked to or you can ride the train. I cannot think of a better hotel to stay at during your visit to Jerusalem. We will be staying there again in November.

Room Tip: I think just make your requests know when booking a room.

I have better memories from our student cantina than from the restaurant of Golden Hotel! Extra small rooms, old TVs, very unhigienical bathrooms. I dont know what they charge per night because we were acommodated there by a travel agency, but fo the service and location, should me not more than 30 USD...

The hotel is very close to the bus station.
Single room was a bit on the small side, and parking is not free, but overall I had a pleasant experience with a decent price/value ratio.
Room was clean and functional, albeit aged.
Breakfast was good with wide choice.

I stayed at Jerusalem Gold Hotel during February for 7 nights along with my family. We decided to stay here because of the good reviews in TA.
Some comments about Jerusalem Gold Hotel :

Location

The Hotel is located a bit far from Old Jerusalem, just across the Bus Station. The most efficient way to get to Old Jerusalem is with the new Light Rail (basically a Tram), which costs 7 NIS per person and takes around 20 minutes. The stop is just across the street from the Hotel. Once we took a taxi to Damascus Gate and the cost was 50 NIS. In the area around the Hotel there are several convenience stores to buy water and snacks, as well as some restaurants. Inside the Bus station there is a McDonalds, Pizzas, Hot Dogs, Bakeries, etc

Transportation from Airport

We arrived to Ben Gurion Airport at 2.30 am. We took a shared taxi - Sherut ( the minivan with 10 seats ) . The cost is 59 NIS per person. The ride to Jerusalem was about 45 minutes and our hotel was the first stop. On the way back to the airport we also used the Sherut, which worked with no problem.

Reception

The reception staff was always very friendly and willing to help with all out questions. They provided a free map of the city, along with very clear explanations on how to use the tram and the area around the hotel.

Rooms

The rooms are a bit old. There is some minor maintenance also needed. However, they are very clean and the beds are comfortable. The TV has multiple international channels, including CNN, BBC, etc. The bathroom is good and the shower has excellent water pressure. Heating worked fine all time.

Internet

This was our only problem in the hotel. From the 6 days in the hotel, during 3 days there was no internet at all. It is supposed to be wireless in all the hotel, however it never worked in our room. So we had to go to the lobby to use it. But only during the 3 days that worked . The cost is 40 NIS for 24 hours. The only option when internet was not available, was to go to the Bus station, go the 3rd floor and there is a café internet. The cost there s 35 NIS for 3 hours ( including one drink ), or if you bring your laptop is free with the purchase of one drink.

Lifts

There are 2 lifts in the hotel. They worked ok all the time, but they are crowded when the tours arrive and are around the hotel. During that “peak” use time, you need to wait for some minutes to get an space.

Restaurant

There is a very good breakfast in the restaurant, which is in the basement. It is open from 6.30 to 9.00 am. It includes a very good selection of fresh fruit, salads, cheese, bread, eggs, coffee, juice, etc.

Tours

As mentioned in other reviews, the hotel is really popular with tours. We counted in some days 5 coaches parked outside, which means no less than 200 persons that come and go by batches. So note that reception, lifts , etc will be crowded during the time they are around the hotel.

Overall good experience to stay in the Jerusalem Gold Hotel , and would recommend it because of its location and clean rooms !

Room Tip: Rooms facing the tram street have better views of New Jerusalem but are noiser

Comfortable bed and clean rooms make this a good value for money hotel. It is located right near the bus station, and there is a taxi rank just outside for convenience. Above the bus station are some shops if you want to buy some food. Staff were helpful when it came to booking restaurants and organising airport transfers. Not sure whether I would stay here again as it was too far from Old Jerusalem. Do not believe Google maps - it is not near the Jaffa Gate! Would prefer a hotel within walking distance - especially on Shabbat when public transport is non existent and taxi drivers charge extra. Taxi ride from hotel to Old Jerusalem was approximately 50-70 shekels.
