My family and I were in Jerusalem last week for a family wedding we stayed as we always do at the Jerusalem Plaza now known as The Leonardo Plaza and as ever we were delighted with our stay at The Leonardo Plaza. My request for a lower floor, adjoining room was carried out (thank you) nothing was too much trouble. The team of professional hoteliers that manage and operate the hotel were all first class two of the F&B staff in particular were outstanding and very helpful one named Samer and one named Mahmoud I think he was a tall, slim gentleman, wearing glasses working at breakfast.

Thank you to everyone at The Jerusalem Plaza WE WILL BE BACK

We arrived at the hotel and knew that we had a delux room with Old City View. Not sure about the delux where that fitted in. Room was old and to say the least dirty. After time we found out that the airconditioning in the entire hotel was off, quite strange as some places including the lifts were rather cool. The mini bar was not working. It only took 3 days to get someone to put a small fridge into the room and deliver a fan that worked. We had to keep the window open as well. I spoke to the cleaner of the room, but it certainly did not help. One could run one's finger along the mirror and along the headboard and you got a wonderful helping of dirt and dust. The chairs in the diningroom were awful (old and dirty) to say the least. In fact on the way day, my husband was just sitting and wanted to get up and the entire chair collapsed.
Shabbat meals. Friday night was so bad that the manager gave us Saturday lunch on the house which was a very nice meal. The staff in the lounge were rude and could not give a damn if one sat for an hour waiting for a coffee. Would certainly not return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Cant help at all, as the place is in total need of upgrade and clean

The Plaza, at least under its former ownership, was a top-flight hotel. On a recent visit, my wife and I learned that this has changed.

Things started off on the wrong foot when we checked in. We were told that we would not receive free WiFi or breakfast, notwithstanding these items having appeared on the confirmation received from our travel agent. WiFi was so expensive that we upgraded to a more expensive room to get it, as the price of the upgrade barely exceeded the price of WiFi. When we tried to use WiFi, it didn’t work, and it took a technician about an hour to repair it.

Things that you would expect to find in a decent hotel were missing, such as a clock radio with an alarm or, in the first room in which we stayed, washcloths. (Forget about bathrobes.)

Most readers will be familiar with the principles of Total Quality Management propounded by W. Edwards Deming. The hotel seems to operate on anti-Deming principles: get it wrong the first time, and then scramble (or don’t scramble, as the case may be) to fix it. The deficiencies ranged from the trivial to the glaring. When we checked in, the note pad in our room had one sheet left. The sheets were not big enough to cover the mattresses – and not because the beds were so large. The toilet bowl was rusty. The counter around the bathroom sink was worn. A purportedly fresh bath towel contained a long hair. The bathtub in our second room did not drain properly. The handheld showerhead in that room was unusable, because pulling the lever that controlled it caused the plastic casing to come off. Most glaring, we noticed in our first room that the doors between our room and the adjoining room were unlocked – both in our room and in the adjoining room. We had to call the front desk to arrange for the doors to be locked.

Our stay comprised two visits, the first of which had been prepaid. Before we returned for the second visit, which had not been prepaid, we attempted to cancel the reservation in order to move to a more accommodating hotel. We were told that the hotel could not do that for us, because we had booked through a travel agent. This left us no choice, as the hotel had our credit card number.

The deficiencies listed above were accompanied in several instances, including the refusal to permit us to cancel the second visit, by surly treatment. Certain members of the staff – though, to be fair, not all – seemed to operate on the principle that abuse is the highest form of customer service.

In short, we had a miserable experience at the Plaza and do not intend to return.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for choosing to stay at the Leonardo Plaza Jerusalem, and for taking the time to share your experience with us.
The issue that you have mentioned in regards to the booking confirmation was due to a misunderstanding from your agent , the hotel went out of his way to accommodate your needs, an original copy of your reservation was sent to you the next day and in addition, the hotel offered a complimentary breakfast to you in order to resolve the situation.
All the other issues mentioned were dealt with straight away e.g. the notepads.
We sincerely feel that we have tried our best to accommodate your needs, and we hope to welcome you again in the near future.

The staff is very nice, the rooms are clean and cheery, but this place caters to big religious-oriented tourists, and it shows. If you're in town for business, stay somewhere else. Internet is spotty and expensive. If your computer fails, they don't have a business center to turn to (although, I repeat again, the staff is extremely kind and tries to be very helpful). The owner reportedly wanted to focus on the religious tour groups, and he got them. Expect to get asked what your persuasion is, every morning, by various guests. The rooms are far too expensive to put up with that.

Ideal location while exploring Old Jerusalem. Walk to the old city in 20 minutes. Our room on the 7th floor had a wonderful panoramic view of the old city. The amenities provided by the hotel were excellent. Being your own wash cloths if you like to use them. The buffets were amazing with an excellent variety of foods. If you like desserts you will be happy. All the staff very friendly and accommodating.

This is a very nice hotel for location if you want to walk to the old city of Jerusalem. Room was clean and the breakfast is something to behold. The front desk staff were great and pleasent. The waiters were totally usless as far as simple tasks like cleaning the table after someone left and refilling your coffee cup. As far as the bell boys were concerned, worthless. This was my first time to Israel, and if I asked them were anything was such as the Museum, a nearby restaurant, they had no idea where they were. I had more success just looking on a map. Another feature about the hotel, is that it is one of the tallest building in the city so if you got lost all you had to do was look for the hotel's sign in the foreground.

A little pricey, but well worth it. Do not forget to pay a little extra for the use of the executive lounge, where you get wine, cheese and snacks and use of the internet all day long.

Room Tip: My rating on the staff was only for the waiters. The front desk help was great.

our room was clean and tidy.
staing at higher floor exposed us to a great panoramical view of Jerusalem.
we enjoyed the breakfasts and dinners (waiters serving the friday night dinner).
Hotel's staff were very calm and pleasent.
Hotel's location is the best we could ask for. short walk to Ben-yehuda street, mamila shoping center and Jerusalem ancient city.

Room Tip: higher floors have better view.
