The King David
Ranked #12 of 100 Hotels in Jerusalem
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 15, 2009

I've reviewed the hotel before; stayed there a few years ago. Continues to be excellent; the club suite and amenities within are great. Service and food are excellent. Visited the David Citadel down the street; it is more contemporary but doesn't have the charm of the King David. I wouldn't switch. New gym and pool are mighty fine renovations. A very good place to return to and feel a piece of virtual home when you visit Jerusalem; staff are consistent and you get to recognize some of them. With the Amex Platinum service, it pays to take the upgrade and amenities; it is good value.

I was thrilled by a warm & personal welcome and a caring attitude of the King David staff. Upon arrival, I was accompanied to the room by a service centre escort and was offered a detailed hotel orientation and a great introduction to this magnificent city , through the room window. The view from the balcony is magnificent. By all means, no other hotel is better situated! I enjoyed a generous and variable breakfast and professional service in the dining room. They've just inaugurated a new fitness centre with a spacious sauna on the spot. The newly reconstructed swimming pool is fabulous! It was also interesting to meet quite a few famous politicians in the lobby. The King David history channel on TV reveals that the hotel hosted many world leaders and celebrities as well as all the major events in Israel's history. Throughout my 4 days stay every wish and expectation was fulfilled before it was pronounced. For example, when I asked to keep my suitcases for 3 hours upon departure, I was offered a complimentary late check out.
Don't miss this experience!

We were looking forward to staying at the King David, having seen the fantastic location and beautiful building many times. But this is a total let down: no idea of service: no one to pick up your luggage, rooms dirty, very dated decoration and lighting, food average to bad. Only good points are location, the view and the people who serve: all very nice. The manager should be fired and replaced by a true professional. I will not go back, and will advise all my friends not to go there until major changes are implemented....

King David by all means deserves its royal name. We came back after 4 years!
a splendid décor, brand new health club, "techno gym" fitness equipment and a beautiful Finnish sauna.
They've also completely rebuilt the swimming pool. Now it is a few meters longer, with a spacious covered kids' pool, a nice playground and jacuzzi. It's a pity, though that the swimming season starts only in April.

Beyond the luxurious facilities, the personalized service and friendliness of the staff were amazing. In the dining room, the senior staff appear to know the guests by name.

We also enjoyed our romantic dinner for two in Grill restaurant La Regence. They apparently changed the good old menu for a real gourmet .

Doubtlessly, another unforgettable vacation in Jerusalem!

I stayed at the King David ten years ago and had a wonderful experience. Boy, have things changed. Booked the room due to my past experience and the wonderful location and view of the old city. They didn't tell me they had some renovations going on. The back of the hotel is all torn up....no gardens, no pool, just a big mess, noisy and dusty. Inside they are doing work and the hallway and stairs are COVERED with white dust. No attempt to even clean it up! Tracked white dust everywhere. Room was worn out. Shower door creaked, rooms were sorely in need of renovation. Very lame workout faclity. Bad system for wifi...it is about $20 per day and it logged me out automatically. I had to wait for tech support to call me back with a user name and password. For $20 a day it should work perfectly! It all screamed go somehere newer! Got my bill and what a rip! If it had been at half the price, then maybe it would have been worth it due to the long view, location and nostalgia...but they charge like a deluxe 5 star Four Seasons, but don't provide that facility or service! Go elsewhere until they get their act together!

Probably one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed. The room was spacious, the lobby was always bustling with activity (but not in a noisy way), and you really feel like you are part of something special when you're there. I went for my brothers' bnai mitzvah, so we had 7 or 8 rooms booked. Nobody had anything bad to say about the accomodations, and the pool was so relaxing. Go, and enjoy!

As we have done for the last 5 years my wife and I spent the Rosh HaShanah (Jewish New Year) holiday at the King David (this year they had an upgrade in lieu of 250 American Express bonus points). As loyal returning clients (our children and grandchildren join us as well) we obviously love the hotel. We enjoy especially the combination of synagogue services in the hotel in the mornings with the use of the famous pool and surrounding gardens in the afternoon (remember Nancy Kissinger cooling off in the pool in 1974 while hubbie hopped between Jerudsalem and Damascus) and all the time we cannot have enough of the unsurpassed view of the Old City just a stone's throw away. Add to that the large well appointed rooms the luxurious bathrooms, the fabulous breakfast (the best in Israel by far), the excellent service by the staff some of whom have been at the hotel for half a century, and above all the history and ambience (walk the long main corridor in the magnificient 1930's colonial style lobby where the signatures of all the great names who have stayed at the hotel from Churchill to Sadat and Clinton are imprinted on the floor, or sit on the half-moon terrace and again drink in the view - remember Paul Newman in "Exodus" sitting there as it was in 1960) and you cannot get better value for your money. Still a few minor points of criticism: the elevators are inefficient (partly due to some of them stopping at each floor so as not to infringe on Sabbath restrictions for the more orthodox clients), and the TV and its remote are old- fashioned and tiresome to operate. Also the rooms on the 2nd floor, while spacious need to be updated None of this can really detract from an experience that is truly one of a kind.
