“By the Damascus Gate”
Reviewed February 27, 2013

A very short stroll from this hotel takes you to the Damascus Gate and access to the old walled town of Jerusalem with plenty to explore for pilgrim and tourist alike.
Our room was very clean, very comfortable, albeit basic, but since we were out all day every day that was all we needed. It looked out to a mosque at the back, which meant it was very quiet except for when the faithful were being called to prayer! We learnt that rooms on the front of the hotel could be very noisy at night. The lounge area with bar was extremely comfortable and relaxed, looking over the busy road to the old town walls and Damascus Gate, dramatic at night when floodlit.
The food was amazing - in terms of quality, quantity and variety - no one need go hungry. The buffet spreads cater for all tastes and are vegetarian friendly!
This is a hotel frequented by coach loads of pilgrims (as were we) so single travellers may not like it so much.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back if a quiet night's sleep is more important than a view!

Well located -just outside the old city's wall and mid way to the Lion's and Damascus' doors. It's a dated, not fancy building, where internal renovation kept up a rather good standard -compared to what groups are usually given. Large selection of food -at high standards, no doubt.
Staff is kind, attentive and tries to do well. Probably the highlight is the large and comfortable lounge, with view to a section of the white city walls. A truly fine place to end your days.

I stayed as part of a group from the UK. I was a single so had a small room with a double bed and found it most adequate. Food was very good and staff very helpful and pleasant. The only thing that left a slightly sour taste was that when I came to settle my account for drinks, they gave me the amount in US$ and said it would be best if I were charged in dollars. I had to request to be charged in shekels (which they did), but I expect a lot of guests are getting caught out by double currency conversion as well as the hotel conversion rates which will not be as good as your bank.

Room Tip: At the back is very quiet

Stayed at this hotel for 4 days and found it to be pleasantly comfortable. From the outside it looks like a roman ruin and I thought I had booked a hotel I was going to regret, thankfully I was deceived by first impression. The hotel is well situated for access to ciity.
The staff were charming and very helpful,my only negative would be the price of drinks at he bar, very very expensive.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the third floor

This hotel is central and offers excellent location, good beds, and great breaksfast.
I have stayed here on several occassions, found the staff to be very friendly, helpful and considerate.
This is always my first choice when I come to Jerusalem, and I am indeed sad when the hotel is not vailable for the dates I request, since its very popular with tourist.

The rooms have been upgraded with new bedding and some additional cupboards, great addition. They also have internet facilities.
Rooms are cleand and well serviced!

Room Tip: choose a room on first floor, view is great facing the great walls of Aqsa
