“As part of a Pilgrimage, Excellent”
Reviewed April 29, 2012

We visited the Golden Walls as part of a package with Mc Cabe pilgrimages of the UK and found it to be very satisfactory. The staff were most helpful and the location excellent, very close to the Damascus Gate. Not 4 star by UK standards but most suitable for our needs. The buffet service for both breakfast and dinner provided a very wide variety dishes.

Room Tip: Rooms to the rear are quieter, but those at the front have more interesting outlook over the old cit...

Very good location not far from the markets and famous sites, all within walking distance, the food was good and the staff were polite and helpful, slight dated decor but this was the only fault.
Also tv in my room was not working, small quirk and I'm sure if I had mentioned this is it would have been resolved but you won't want to stay in and watch tv anyway!

I booked this hotel through United Travel in East Jerusalem because I wanted my group to experience both the east and west parts of the city. It was the perfect location and provided comfortable accommodation, wonderful meals helpful staff and easy access to all of the city. We had a great time walking the neighborhood streets and had easy access to the old city within a five minute walk. Garth

Room Tip: for quiet ask for a room on the back and on the front to watch the street life which closes down by...

Stayed here on a pilgrimage tour in March 2012. A family run hotel with loyal staff. Great location overlooking the city walls and an easy walk through Damascus Gate into Old City and 10 mins to Holy Sepulchre for example. No lift from street to Reception (1 flight of stairs). Rooms are average 3 star business hotel style. Not the most modern, but perfectly clean and decently sized. Safe in room was very useful. Breakfast is buffet style and a good choice. Dinners are also buffet style, good choice and regularly topped up. Waiters clean up regularly, sometimes a little too quickly, and were attentive to drinks requests.

Bar area is pleasant, but 4 pounds for a beer is too much !! Groups gathered here most evenings to talk about the day... very pleasant. There is also a roof terrace and bar area, but too cold to use when we were there.

Overall a good base and would stay again.

This hotel is ideally placed for exploring all parts of the Jerusalem - especially the Old City and East Jerusalem. I have stayed here three times now and have received a warm, courteous and friendly welcome each time. The staff are always ready to assist in any way they can.

It does feel a little rough and ready around the corners occasionally, but it is clean, generally quiet - and has views from the rooftop which are always interesting.

The food is always plentiful and well-prepared.

Room Tip: Rooms near the lift are better - especially if near the front of the hotel.

As with other reviewers we have just returned from a McCabe pilgrimage and the Golden Walls was our base for six nights. Whilst it is amid the bustle of Arab Jerusalem it is immediately opposite the Old City and is perfectly placed for all the religious and secular attractions. The public rooms are on the first floor above the shops and are all well appointed and furnished. The food was varied and excellent, self service at both breakfast and dinner meaning that you could sample everything. A very busy dining room but never any queueing. Staff very efficient. Minimal wine list but the red Cremasan from Bethlehem was excellent at £10 a bottle. Local Taybeh beer quite acceptable but £3.30 for a small bottle. We had a first floor room (immediately behind the bar) which faced the city walls and was quiet and fairly spacious. Minimal curtains which might have been a problem in summer. It was wet and cold while we were there (snow on one occasion) but the free standing electric heater in the room coped well and was ideal for drying wet clothes ! Others in the group had rooms at the back but no one complained although those close to the mosque minaret did moan about the early morning calls to prayer. If we return to Jerusalem independently, which we do plan to do then we will definitely stay at the Golden Walls again. Another reviewer says 'if EasyJet start flying to Tel Aviv' - they already do - daily from Luton.

Mostly catering for groups, the staff of this hotel can't do enough for you and with plenty of smiles. The rooms vary a bit in size, we had one round the back, no view but absolute quiet, and with a little sitting area. Sound travelled through the bathroom ceilings from next door so keep the bathroom door shut! Everything perfectly clean and we slept well. Well serviced daily, and reception was always ready to help. The enormous buffets morning and evening gave you every choice and the bar was well-stocked and friendly with a comfortable spacious lounge to relax in. The location is very central.

Room Tip: At the back for quiet, at the front for views.
