“Convenient Location”
Reviewed November 17, 2011

This hotel was part of a tour we went on, we didn't book it independently. It was close to the tram which is free (at least it is now, I heard they are going to start charging sometime in 2012). We were able to ride it several times into the city and shopping areas. For the breakfast buffet, we were seated together as a group of about 30 which was not convenient since we had to squeeze 6 people to a small table that should have been for 4. The food choices for the buffet were good. Many salads, cereal, yogurt, breads, coffee and tea and a variety of other things to satisfy most people. The staff was not particularly helpful, it seemed that every time we asked them for something they didn't have it or know how to get it. One day they would have currency to exchange and another they wouldn't. When we checked in as scheduled, our rooms were not ready and after 27 hours of flying, we were exhausted and wanted to go directly to our rooms. We waited about 30 minutes, while others in our group waited longer. Even when we did get to our room, there were no towels or soap/shampoo etc. there. I had to hunt someone down from housekeeping. Our phone never worked the entire time we were there. The middle elevator is used for Shebat (Sabbath) on Friday/Saturday, so stay out of that one if you don't want to stop at every floor. The rooms were fine, not very modern but ok. The mall downstairs had some great shopping and conveniently had atm's and currency changers. We stayed for 5 nights and traveled from here to our destinations which worked out fine for us since we were on a prearranged tour. Otherwise, it may be a ways out for some who want to see the sights. We never got to use the pool because you have to get permission and it wasn't available when we wanted to go.

We stayed there 11th to 19th October,2011 as part of ICEJ tour for Sukkot. The hotel was convenient for the Conference Centre which was about a 10 minute walk away.
Most of the time we were either in a bus or at the Conference but the hotel was a convenient base and served us well.
The hotel was good, the staff very helpfu,l for which we were grateful as we were allowed into out rooms at 08:30 having arrived in dribs and drabs, jet-lagged from Ben Gurion, Tel Aviv. They were able to provide a temporary bed (at minimum charge)for my daughter who joined my wife and me for a few days. This made the room somewhat crowded as it was only intended for a couple, but we managed. The facilities coped well.
We were on the 6th floor where there were 3 lifts which coped even with the dedicated Shabbat Lift in spite of the large numbers of guests.
I had no problems with the food though some tour members said that in previous visits it had been better. Meals are buffet style and the temptation is to eat too much. Restraint is called for.
There was a charge for the Hotel Wi FI but in the shopping centre located below the hotel there is Free Wi Fi based on the centrally placed Coffee Shop . There are also Food shops where my wife and I managed nicely on a serving of Stir Fry for 29 NIS. There is also a Money Exchange Shop and an ATM with the 'English' option that connects to your Savings account and dispences NIS. The Coffee is excellent and the staff speak English.
Because it was Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles) the hotel was busy be there was never a sense of overcrowing.
WE enjoyed our stay and would recommend a reasonably price base for anyone wanting a central location.

Room Tip: Try to get a room at the end of the lobby away from the lifts and there will be less disturbance fro...

Staff: helpful, polite, efficient. Fluent English spoken: Great hospitality. The staff in the dining room were helpful, friendly and courteous at all times.

Shopping Mall below the hotel. Food and souvenirs available there.

Location: near the Bus station, but far from the Old City. I didn’t like the location indeed.

Rooms: comfy though quite basic. Tea and coffe making facilities, but no fridge or mini bar.

Breakfast: Good selection. Buffet type. Plenty of choice. Tip: ask for the Turkish coffee. They are not at sight. You have to ask for them! It’s delicious!

A bit noisy at night, due to closeness to hospital and tour guests.

Security Staff on the front door: polite and honest! I was given back a coat I had forgotten the night before at the dining-room! Their constant presence is reassuring.

Sjabbath elevator.

Free Wifi in the lobby, though no Wifi in the room.

I stayed at the Jerusalem Gate with a large group of friends whilst on Israel Tour. Being a large group of people on a tight budget we were not expecting luxury, and we didn't get luxury. However, it was a very pleasant stay.
The rooms were nice, not massive but not too small. The bathrooms could have done with a little redecoration and refitting. They looked quite old and musty.
The food was by far not the best in Jerusalem, but there was nothing too bad about it with a relatively large choice and it being quite tasty.
The location is great: a shopping centre is under the hotel with lots of nice places to hang around and shop in. There was a bit of noise but nothing to lose sleep over.
Thanks!
