“Great view from lousy room!”
Reviewed June 24, 2010

Tallest hotel in Jerusalem is not a recommendation! Very nice foyer and public areas but indifferent reception staff who do not like complaints. Out -size dining room with very good buffet and helpful waiting staff - probably the best feature of the hotel! Then the horror of the bedrooms - in dire need of renovation - room was small and dark - aircon when working was noisy and not very effective - soundproofing is non existent and this hotel is in a busy spot - bathroom had someone elses hair in it and smelt - the cistern was faulty and ran all night - the sheets were well worn and had holes in them - there was a drain cover under the carpet just inside the door which tilted when walked on and then banged back into place - I felt sorry for the people underneath. Two nights of hell!!!

The hotel guide in the bedroom says that this hotel is "a veteran" in Jerusalem. Old age is not necessarily good for a hotel! The rooms are in need of a serious renovation: the HVAC is 30-year old, the windows do not stop the noise, the bathrooms look terrible, the mattress had seen way too many guests etc. By contrast, the service is good and I feel sorry for the employees who have to face customers made unhappy by poor accommodations. In terms of location, it is great if you have to go to the conference center, otherwise it is quite remote from the old city. In conclusion, I would not come back to this hotel until they have renovated the rooms.

Stayed there three nights in May 2010. The hotel exterior is not as pleasing to the eye as many of the newer hotels but inside everything is clean and tasteful. At check in we were pleased to find out that our room had been upgraded.

The hotel sits atop one on the higher hills in Jerusalem offering a good view of the city if the weather is clear. The Knesset and other government buildings are also close. Given that Jerusalem is a rather hilly city if you might find it difficult to walk to the old city from the hotel. My girlfriend and I made the walk in about 40 minutes. The hotel is close to the main Jerusalem market and other sights you might not see when staying closer to the old city. Ben Yehuda St is about a 15 to 20 minute walk away.

Breakfast was not included but available if you wanted to pay extra. We ate breakfast at the hotel once and felt it expensive for what was offered. We did use the bar a couple of times for drinks and coffee and felt that to be a much better value.

One night at 11pm my girfriend and I decided it would be fun to go to the Dead Sea & Massada the next day. The front desk employee managed to arrange that for us at 11pm so a big thank you is definitely in order.

There is a pool (not completely outdoor) and it was open until 8pm except Shabbat.

There are a couple of computers offering internet access (not free). However, the connection would cut in and out which was mildly frustrating. This was our only complaint.

Price wise this hotel was considerably lower than most other Jerusalem offerings. I found it to be an excellent value and would definitely recommend.

One thing I noticed travelling in Israel in general: Most prices are posted including the VAT tax. If you are a tourist you are exempt from paying the VAT under certain circumstances (like hotel rooms). I noticed that most times when I charged something to my room it was posted without the VAT on my final bill vs if I paid via cash or credit card immediately. As such if I ever wanted to buy something from the hotel I charged it to my room and hped it would be posted sans VAT at checkout.

The Crowne Plaza in Jerusalem was a major disappointment. I had researched the hotel before leaving on my trip, but the online photos of facilities do NOT represent the actual experience. Basically, I am confident there are better options that charge less. Avoid it.

The bad: The rooms are small and very dark and depressing. The location is terrible so unless you are part of a tour, seeing anything outside your hotel will be very difficult. There is no safe in the room, which I find ridiculous. To use their gym, you have to pay extra (and it's a lot). The pool is free, but it's not open very late, so using it was out of the question for anyone in my group.

The good (or acceptable): The food is quite good and there is a variety available for picky eaters. Water pressure in the rooms is good.

Check in at the front desk went smoothly. I wouldn't say anyone was overwelcoming - felt a little cold.

We had two rooms at the Crown Plaza on the 12th floor. Lovely views of Jerusalem. Rooms are comfortable and what we loved was the fact that the sofa bed was actually a real bed and not one of the typical sofa beds we see in the US. Our daughter said it was a very comfortable double bed. We all had an excellent night's sleep.
Just a note, the kettle is not in view. It is located in a cabinet above the refridgerator.

. The hotel is very close to the central bus station and does have parking.

From the moment we tried to check in it was arguments - the "Manager" argued that our reservation was wrong - even though he had the print out in his hand when saying this!
We had to make up the beds for our children ourselves in a room that obviously wasn't designed for an additional bed and cot.
Next day we arrived back to find the room wasn't made up - we called house keeping and were told "we must have requested it not to be made up"
We asked to see the manager on a number of times but they never showed their face.

Of the 2 weeks we were in Israel this was the worst experience - the staff don't give a damn about you so my advice is give your money to a hotel group that do - stay away from this hotel
