“great for a quick affordable lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2014

If you're in the area and looking for a quick - and very affordable - something to eat, then this is the place. It has many different custom-made pastas you can choose from and is almost always packed with young students trying to fill their empty stomach.

“Great value home-made pasta”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2014

This place is a little bit too good and great value. The only problem is that it can get busy and be hard to find a table.

The menu is a simple choice of pasta, sauce and a great selection of extras.

My normal order of whole wheat fusilli with a curry coconut sauce is slightly spicy the right amount of creamy. (23 NIS)

With the addition of fresh cooked mushrooms and sweet potato, it comes to 33 NIS, better than any local Italian and half the price.

It is a fun place to sit with friends and great for take away.

“Inferior quality, terribly lacking”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2014

I didn't have a choice eating here; our coordinator picked the place.
Having eaten tons of pasta in Italy and even in the USA and Singapore, it sucked a lot.

Here's why I generally do not trust TripAdvisor restaurant reviews. They're too uncritical and do not objectively rate them, unlike Yelp which is very serious about quality of reviews. A completely different audience which lacks the breadth and depth required to appreciate cuisine.

Where do I start. The smoked salmon pasta - sauce was weak, bland; pasta texture was definitely overcooked and limp. The flavors were insipid, timid, and I was having trouble eating it. A waste of 35 NIS. Go to Roma and get Cacio E Pepe at literally any place, it will put this place to shame.

Do not trust the 4/5 star ratings if you know what's good for your tastebuds. Trust the Yelp Elite. Service is good. But which goes through your tastebuds: service or food?

“Simple and cool”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 5, 2014

Pasta Basta is as simple and cool as it gets. You order food at the counter and try to find a seat at the bar or at a table, which is not always an easy task considering the place is often packed. The restaurant is located in a corner of the popular Mahan Yehuda market, surrounded by other small bars and restaurants. Most customers are students and youth. The ladies at the counter are overall nice, but some are not that helpful with customers who don't speak Hebrew. The choice of pasta is nice and it tastes good; so do the desserts. The boutique beer they have on offer is excellent. For the price it's a very decent meal, in a cool atmosphere.
