If I could, I'd keep this place a secret for myself. But then it is located in the heart of Jerusalem's Mahane Yehuda market - hardly a secret spot. Pasta Basta is squeezed into a corner of one of the Shuks bustling alley's, close to Agripas road. You can either sit at the bar or on one of the small tables. The place is rather small and usually very busy. Make sure you order at the bar, where English menus are available (your food will be served to you). You can chose your type of pasta - made right on the spot - and sauce (plus optional extras). An average dish will cost between 20 and 30 NIS. The place is kosher dairy, which means it's a great spot for vegetarians. But even if you are an omnivore like me, you won't be disappointed. Cool tap water is available for free from a dispenser. The only real downside that comes with the kosher certificate is that the place is closed on Shabbat.
